Sustainable Commercial Design Inspired by Nature
Designing commercial environments where architecture and the landscape exist as one, using honest materials to create spaces that breathe.
At dusk, 'The Earth' experience center glows with warmth, its lightweight MS frame and dry-clad granite walls settling into the landscape. The design is a beacon of sustainable architecture, blending modern techniques with timeless materials.
A closer view of the patio at 'The Earth' project. The exterior features a striking interplay of warm CSEB and grey granite, with sleek vertical grooves adding a contemporary touch to the earthy palette.
The versatile design of 'The Earth' experience center allows for the creation of unique individual stories. The choice of materials and structural elements provides a profound sense of the surrounding abundant nature.
The entrance to 'The Earth' showcases our use of locally sourced CSEB walls flowing seamlessly into granite inlay flooring. This detail highlights our focus on craftsmanship and sustainable, locally-sourced materials.
The interior of 'The Earth' is a double-height space defined by raw concrete and large windows that flood the area with natural light. This award-winning design exemplifies our commitment to pioneering creative innovation.
About The Earth: Sustainable Commercial Design
At 'The Earth', we utilized Compressed Stabilised Earth Blocks (CSEB) and dry-clad granite to move away from typical, sterile commercial construction. This specific combination regulates indoor temperatures naturally, allowing the space to stay cool without relying entirely on mechanical air conditioning. It is a building approach that prioritizes occupant comfort and environmental responsibility over quick, aesthetic fixes.
Our approach to commercial architecture is rooted in the idea that a workspace should contribute to the environment rather than compete with it. By employing a lightweight MS (mild steel) frame, we minimize the building's footprint on the site, allowing the structure to rest gently on the land.
Material Integrity in Design
We lean on raw, honest materials. The use of CSEB provides thermal mass, while dry-clad granite offers a durable, textured skin that ages gracefully over time. These choices are intentional; they define the building's character through the inherent properties of the materials themselves rather than through added decorative layers. In 'The Earth', this manifests as a sequence of spaces that shift between solid and void, framing views of the landscape and bringing natural light into the heart of the office.
Designing for Connection
Commercial spaces, whether retail centers or corporate offices, often overlook the necessity of quiet. We integrate elements like vertical grooves and strategically placed openings that act as light monitors, changing the character of the space as the sun moves across the sky. This connection to the diurnal cycle helps maintain a rhythm for those working within the space, a principle we apply to all our projects in Nandi Hills and beyond. By focusing on site-specific responses and passive cooling strategies, we aim to deliver environments that remain relevant and comfortable for decades to come, proving that commercial functionality and environmental sensitivity can coexist comfortably.
