Kasauli Mountain Retreat Interior Design
A quiet escape in the hills, designed to frame the valley views. This wood-clad apartment brings the mountain spirit indoors with natural textures and a live fireplace.
The living room is the soul of this mountain home, anchored by a hand-built fireplace and wrapped in the warmth of natural wood. We designed this space for pause and presence, with our signature Ava chairs inviting you to linger by the fire and soak in the snow-capped views.
A closer look at the living area, where a bold blue Ava chair adds a pop of color against the warm wood and ash-grey fireplace. The space is a journey of details, from the curated books on the shelves to the art that hangs above the hearth.
From a simple architectural drawing to a cozy reality. This video shows the transformation of the living room's fireplace, a central element that brings warmth and character to the entire home.
The dining area is wrapped in warmth, featuring a custom dining table made from reclaimed wood. Framed by a large bay window, the space offers views of Kasauli’s changing skies and includes a bespoke buffet unit for showcasing local artifacts.
The master bedroom feels like a cozy cabin, with warm timber finishes and a fluted bed back. Lush foliage-print wallpaper and curtains blur the line between indoors and out, making the space feel both grounded and dreamlike.

The kids' bedroom is a vibrant space designed for playful comfort. A custom bay window nook with colorful upholstery serves as a daybed with built-in storage, offering the perfect perch for daydreaming while looking out at the Himalayan view.

About Project: Valley of Dreams, Kasauli - A Mountain Retreat
When designing a mountain home, technical challenges like insulation and ventilation are just as important as the aesthetics. We had to carefully plan the structure for a live fireplace, ensuring the roof was punctured and sealed correctly to prevent any monsoon leaks while maintaining a warm, efficient chimney draft.
Our goal for this Kasauli retreat was to create a space that felt like an extension of the surrounding forest rather than an interruption. We chose locally sourced pinewood for the ceiling and wall fluting, which provides natural warmth and acoustic softness.
The family required a space that remained fluid and uncluttered. To achieve this, we focused on multi-functional furniture, such as the den that doubles as an office and a guest bedroom. Every item was selected to serve a purpose without overwhelming the limited square footage.
Nature dictated the color palette. We avoided loud, artificial tones, opting instead for organic hues that reflect the valley. A vibrant blue was used as our only deliberate pop of color, appearing on the entrance door, select upholstery, and artwork to ground the space. The result is a home that remains peaceful throughout the day, allowing the rustling of leaves and birdsong to remain the primary soundtrack of the house.
