Crafting serene spaces in the mountains, where local stone and timber meet the quietude of Kainchi Dham.

A moment of quiet reflection in the meditation space we designed for a boutique homestay in Kainchi Dham. The room is crafted to capture the morning light and the peaceful rhythm of the mountains.

The view from the nearly completed sunroom, overlooking the Kumaon Hills. We designed the expansive windows to frame the landscape, making nature the main focus of the space.

An in-progress view of the open pavilion. The design features a delicate butterfly roof that seems to float above the hills, creating a space that is sheltered yet completely open to the elements.

The interior of the homestay extension nearing completion. The warm wood-paneled ceiling and large windows create a cozy and inviting atmosphere, perfect for enjoying the mountain views.

Another shot during the construction phase, showing the raw structure and the careful assembly of the wooden ceiling and window frames against the backdrop of the stunning Uttarakhand landscape.

About Spaces for Stillness: A Himalayan Homestay

The meditation pavilion at this Kainchi Dham site utilizes a butterfly roof, a structural choice that serves two purposes: it creates an elegant form that directs rainwater away from the foundation while opening the ceiling to frame the vast expanse of the Kumaon Hills. This design allows the interior to remain sheltered yet open, creating a seamless boundary between the built environment and the surrounding mountain landscape.
