Master Your Asana: Yoga Workshops & Tutorials
I help you find steadiness and ease in your practice, whether you're just starting or working toward advanced arm balances. Let’s break down complex poses into doable steps using props and mindful alignment.
Here is how I use the wall to safely practice standing Chakrasana, or wheel pose. The wall provides support as I walk my hands down, helping to build the strength and confidence needed for this deep backbend. Props are wonderful tools for progress.
Using a yoga wheel to work on Kapotasana, a very deep backbend. Props are incredibly helpful for making advanced poses more accessible. They provide support, help with alignment, and allow you to safely explore your body's limits.
Building strength with Chakrasana push-ups. This dynamic variation of the wheel pose is a powerful way to strengthen the arms, shoulders, and back muscles while improving spinal flexibility. It's a challenging but rewarding practice.
A tutorial on entering Eka Pada Koundinyasana, or flying split. This video breaks down the transition from a lunge, showing how to engage the core and use arm strength to lift into this dynamic arm balance.
A step-by-step guide to Surya Yantrasana, or compass pose. This seated posture provides a deep stretch for the hamstrings, hips, and shoulders. It's important to warm up thoroughly before attempting this beautiful asana.
Another look at how to approach Compass Pose, or Surya Yantrasana. I demonstrate how to cradle the leg and use the opposite arm to gently guide the leg into the full expression of the pose, opening the side body.
Practicing Utthita Hasta Padangusthasana, or extended hand-to-big-toe pose, in my studio. This standing balance pose teaches discipline and stillness, reminding us that the goal is not just the physical shape, but the quiet mind we find within it.
About this collection
The secret to unlocking advanced poses like Chakrasana or Eka Pada Koundinyasana isn't just raw effort, it is understanding alignment. I see so many students struggle because they skip the foundational work or fear the floor. In these workshops, we use wheels, blocks, and straps to make these shapes accessible, not intimidating. We focus on how your joints move so you can build strength safely, rather than just forcing a shape your body isn't ready for yet.
Why Props Change Everything
Many people think props are only for beginners, but I use them to go deeper into the pose. Whether it is a block for your hand in a twist or a wheel to support your spine in a backbend, these tools help you find 'Sthira Sukham Asanam', which means steadiness and stillness. By taking the pressure off your joints, you can hold the pose longer and actually feel the muscle engagement rather than just fighting to survive the movement.
My Workshop Approach
My workshops are designed for those who want to move beyond generic flow classes. We dedicate time to the anatomy of the pose, breaking down 3-hour sessions into three distinct parts:
- Joint Mechanics: We spend 30 minutes understanding which muscles to engage and how to protect your joints.
- Drills & Prep: Before we try the peak pose, we do specific drills. If we are working on handstands, we focus on shoulder stability and core control first.
- The Pose: We explore the full expression of the asana with hands-on adjustments and safety spotting.
What You Take Home
You will not leave with just memories of a good session. I provide a set of homework drills for every workshop, so you can continue building your strength and flexibility at home. Whether you are aiming to master your first arm balance or finally straightening your legs in a backbend, these sessions provide the roadmap to get there safely. Come with a curious mind and be ready to learn the 'why' behind the 'how'.
