The Janbo Story: How We Found Purpose in Clay
I turned away from the noise of the city to find clarity in a block of clay. This is the story of how The Janbo began, and what waiting for the kiln to fire taught me about life.
This is where it started. After quitting my job and disappearing from my busy life, I stumbled upon slow living vlogs on YouTube. Seeing people work with clay planted a seed that would eventually grow into The Janbo.
Late nights in the studio are my form of therapy. With just the clay and a song on loop, the silence of the night becomes a space for healing and creation. This is the feeling of comfort I hope to share with everyone who comes here.
As the sun sets, the studio becomes a place of peace. The rhythmic work of the wheel helps melt away the day's worries. Pottery teaches us to find joy in simple, heartfelt moments.
This video explains the different dimensions of The Janbo. From our core workshops and memberships to unique offerings like private pottery sessions and creative travel, we've built a multi-faceted home for all things clay.
About this collection
Coming to the studio is not just about learning to throw on the wheel. It is about understanding that the clay reacts to your mood, your pace, and your pressure. When you visit us at our Kodathi Gate studio, you are not just a student in a class. You are part of a community that values the process of making over the perfection of the final piece.
In February 2020, I hit a wall. I left my career in modelling and corporate life without a backup plan. I spent eight months in silence with my dog, Pinto, waiting for a direction. It was a slow-living vlog on YouTube that introduced me to the tactile, meditative world of ceramics. That simple discovery shifted everything.
The Janbo was born from that shift. It is not a factory for ceramics. It is a space on Sarjapur Road where we teach the fundamentals of wheel throwing, hand building, and glazing, but with the intent of slowing down.
Whether you are joining our 12-week professional pottery course or dropping in for a weekend workshop, my approach remains the same. We focus on the basics of clay chemistry, the rhythm of the wheel, and the patience required for kiln firing. We work with local stoneware clay and encourage students to find their own artistic voice rather than mimicking mine.
If you are looking for a break from your routine, this space is for you. We provide the wheels, the tools, and the kiln services. You only need to bring your curiosity and a willingness to get your hands dirty. We are here to help you turn that initial urge to create into a genuine skill.
The Janbo
I am Madhumita. I built The Janbo to share what I found during my own time of silence: the simple, grounding power of working with your hands. Whether you are a beginner or looking to master the wheel, I am here to guide your process.
