Handcrafted Ceramic Tableware & Vases
Every bowl, vase, and mug I shape in my Bengaluru studio holds a quiet story. From raw, earthy textures to pieces that celebrate the beauty of a slightly imperfect glaze, these are made to bring a slower, more mindful rhythm to your daily home rituals.
The Wild Petal Vase, a piece of functional sculpture. The hand-shaped rim mimics the organic form of a flower, and the textured, dark green glaze gives it a deep, earthy feel.
A tall, elegant vase with a ruffled rim and a rich, glossy green glaze. This piece is designed to be a statement, bringing a touch of nature's drama indoors.
A raw, unglazed lidded jar, wheel-thrown and trimmed to perfection. I love the simplicity of these forms, where the beauty of the natural clay is the main focus.
A handmade dinner plate with a beautiful, speckled green glaze. The abstract white splashes add a touch of modern artistry to this functional piece.
A collection of handmade dishes, including crescent-shaped paint palettes and a heart-shaped trinket dish in a deep magenta glaze. These pieces are designed to bring joy to your creative space or dressing table.
The "Melting Jaggery" vase set, inspired by the warm, golden-brown hue of traditional Indian jaggery. This three-part set can be arranged in different ways to hold flowers or stand alone as a sculpture.
My "Melting Jaggery" vase, styled as a flower frog. The perforated lid holds stems in place, making it easy to create beautiful, minimalist floral arrangements.
About this collection
When you bring one of my pieces home, you might notice subtle fingerprint marks or an uneven rim on a bowl. That is not a factory flaw, it is the signature of my hand-building process. Because I use high-fired stoneware, these pieces are durable enough for daily meals and dishwasher cycles, but they ask for a little more presence than store-bought, mass-produced ceramics.
My pottery journey in Bengaluru is rooted in the philosophy that the objects we touch every day should have a soul. Whether it is a deep ramen bowl for your one-pot meals or a sculptural vase, every item is crafted to break the monotony of machine-made housewares.
The Craft Behind the Clay
I work primarily with high-fired stoneware, chosen for its strength and heat retention, alongside local terracotta. My glazes are food-safe and range from the high-gloss finishes seen on my signature vases to the matte, raw textures of unglazed pieces. Every firing cycle is a lengthy, 18-hour process that transforms raw, wet clay into functional art.
Embracing Wabi-Sabi
You will see 'wabi-sabi' influences throughout my collection. A rim might not be perfectly circular, or a glaze might pool differently on a serving platter. These are intentional choices. When you choose a hand-built plate or a marbled clay tumbler, you are choosing a piece with a distinct personality that tells the story of its time in my kiln.
Care & Longevity
While these are functional pieces, they are not fragile. Most stoneware is microwave and dishwasher safe, though I always suggest hand-washing to preserve the glaze's longevity. If you pick up one of my gold-luster pieces, please treat it with extra gentleness—those specific decorative finishes are not microwave-friendly and require careful hand-washing.
The Janbo
I am Madhumita. After years in a fast-paced life, I found my center at the wheel in my Kodathi Gate studio. I do not just make ceramics; I shape pieces that invite you to slow down, touch the earth, and find a little bit of calm in your daily cup of tea or evening meal.
