Our Studio & Story
A look inside the space where the magic happens, from my first wheel on a terrace to the quiet, light-filled studio we call home today.
A quiet corner of my studio. The pottery wheel, some water bowls, and shelves of works-in-progress. This is where I come to find my peace and create.
A tour of my Bangalore studio. From a dream on a small terrace to this beautiful, light-filled space, it's been an incredible journey. This is where we host workshops, create our collections, and welcome our community.
This is how it started. After hitting pause on my life, I found myself drawn to slow-living vlogs on YouTube. Seeing people create with their hands planted a seed that would eventually grow into The Janbo.
A milestone moment: our very first flea market stall. It was a whirlwind of hard work and excitement, and it was so fulfilling to share my story and my work with so many new people.
Unboxing day is the best day. This is a look at a recent haul of new underglazes, onglazes, and stains. I'm like a kid in a candy store, dreaming up all the new color combinations and experiments.
The moment of truth. Unloading the kiln after an 18-hour glaze firing is always filled with anticipation. This batch was a success, with every piece emerging vibrant and flawless.
A cozy day in the studio. This video shows the process of trimming, sanding, and painting pieces before they go into the kiln. It's a slow, meditative part of the pottery journey.
About this collection
When I started The Janbo, I wanted a space that felt like a breath of fresh air. My studio in Kodathi Gate is a working space that doubles as a community hub. If you are planning to drop by to see the space or pick up a piece, please message me first, as I am often deep in a firing cycle or a quiet wheel-throwing session.
My studio is more than just a place to store clay or wait for the kiln to cool. It is where I spent months finding my own rhythm, and it is where I invite others to do the same. Whether you are looking for pottery workshops, a space for your own creative practice, or simply want to understand the effort that goes into a single piece of stoneware, this is where it happens.
At the studio, I focus on the entire process. From sourcing local clay to the long 18-hour glaze firing, nothing is rushed. The space is set up to encourage slow-living and mindfulness. You will find shelves filled with works-in-progress, test tiles of new glazes, and the occasional bouquet of fresh flowers. It is not a sterile gallery, but a living, breathing part of my journey.
If you are interested in learning, I host sessions ranging from one-day wheel-throwing introductions to longer sculpture courses. I also open the studio for artists who need a quiet corner to build, or for those who just want to experience the meditative quality of clay. Every piece you see here, from the raw mugs to the finished sculptures, was born in this corner of Bengaluru.
The Janbo
I am Madhumita. The Janbo started because I needed a pause, and now it is a space for anyone else needing that same stillness. Whether you want to join a workshop or just see how your mug was made, my studio doors are open for you.
