Everyday objects hold the most meaning. I handcraft stoneware mugs, teapots, and tableware that turn your daily rituals into moments of quiet joy.

This was a special commission for a non-profit. The video shows 10 days of work, from throwing the plates to carving them with sgraffito designs and finally boxing them up for delivery.

This hand-painted plate was a custom gift for a retiring scientist, depicting the Kodaikanal Solar Observatory. It’s projects like these, full of personal meaning, that I cherish the most.

Making plates takes patience. This video shows the process of throwing a large 10-inch plate on the wheel and then carefully trimming it to get the perfect shape and foot ring.

A stoneware teapot, freshly thrown and assembled. Making a functional teapot is a true test of skill, requiring precision in shaping the body, spout, lid, and handle so they all work together perfectly.

Sometimes things don't go as planned. I recorded the whole process of making this teapot, only to realize it was out of frame. But I still love how the final piece turned out.

There is such elegance in simplicity. This wheel-thrown stoneware teapot has a calm, minimalist feel, with a beautiful pale blue glaze that has a subtle, speckled texture.

A quick look at the process, from a student working on the wheel to some of my finished pieces, including a teapot and mugs.

Glazing is always a process of discovery. Here are various pieces, from colorful jars to a teapot with a bubble glaze effect, waiting to go into the kiln.

About Functional Art for Daily Life

Pottery isn't instant. Every custom mug or teapot I make takes about 3 to 4 weeks to move from wet clay to the final firing. This time allows for proper drying and the multiple kiln cycles needed to make your pieces durable enough for everyday use in your kitchen.

I believe that the items you use every morning—your coffee mug, your teapot, your dinner plate—should bring a sense of calm to your day. When I craft functional ceramics, my focus is on how the object feels in your hands as much as how it looks on your shelf.

I primarily work with stoneware clay, which I fire to 1200 degrees Celsius. This high-fire process makes the clay non-porous and incredibly durable. Whether you are looking for a set of mugs with your company logo or a hand-painted platter as a gift, the technical foundation remains the same: strength, water resistance, and food safety.

Customization is my favorite part of the process. I have painted historical observatories on plates for retiring colleagues and designed teapots with specific handle ergonomics to fit a two-finger grip. Because every piece is wheel-thrown or hand-built by me, you will notice slight variations in height or rim width. These are not flaws, but the marks of a human hand at work.

If you have an idea for a custom ceramic project, feel free to share your thoughts with me. We can chat about the shape, the glazing style, and the timeline required to bring your idea to life safely.
