Classical Hatha Yoga for Kids in Doddakallasandra
A space for children to build strength, focus, and stillness through classical Hatha Yoga. No fancy gear needed—just their natural energy and a willingness to learn.
Here is a glimpse into one of my Angamardana classes for children. I find that kids have a natural openness that makes them wonderful students. My role is to guide their energy through classical Hatha Yoga, helping them build strength, focus, and a sense of inner calm that will support them for years to come.
Teaching is a partnership. In this photo, I am guiding a young student through a posture during a kids' yoga session. I ensure each child receives personal attention to help them with alignment and to make sure they are practicing safely and effectively.
I often wish I had discovered Yoga Namaskar as a teenager; the way it stretches the spine is incredible. This 10-minute practice is especially beneficial for growing bodies, helping improve posture and build strength. It's a simple yet powerful tool for kids and teens.
A common question I get is, "Does my child need to be flexible to do yoga?" The answer is no. We start wherever we are. Flexibility is a natural outcome of consistent practice, not a requirement to begin the journey.
While there is a lot of information online, learning asanas correctly is very important to avoid injury and receive the full benefit. I teach the proper way to get into a posture, how to hold it, and how to breathe, ensuring a safe and deep experience that you cannot get from a random video.
Your practice is always with you, wherever you are. It doesn't require a perfect background or special clothes. Sometimes, the most profound moments happen in the simplest settings, just by sitting and connecting with your body.
Please do not hesitate to reach out if you find your practice is slipping. That is the most important time to connect with your teacher. I am always here to provide the support and motivation needed to get back on the mat.
About Featured
Many parents worry if their child needs to be flexible to start. They don't. We start exactly where they are. In my studio, we focus on steady, traditional practices like Yoga Namaskar and Angamardana that help improve posture and concentration. These sessions are simple, distraction-free, and designed to help them build a practice that supports their physical and mental growth.
Physical fitness for kids often focuses on sports, but Hatha Yoga provides a different foundation. It builds a strong back, sharpens focus, and brings a sense of calm that serves them in school and daily life.
My sessions in Doddakallasandra are held in a minimalist, naturally ventilated space. We avoid the 'fun and games' approach because that does not build deep capability. Instead, we use a structured methodology—hands-on corrections and consistent practice—that teaches children to be self-reliant.
What we cover:
- Yoga Namaskar: A powerful 10-minute practice for spinal health and growth. It is excellent for teens to improve posture and build strength.
- Angamardana: A high-intensity bodyweight system for agility. It is safe for children and helps them build foundational tendon strength without needing gym equipment.
- Discipline: We maintain a reverent atmosphere. This helps children learn to listen and stay focused, which is a rare skill these days.
Your child does not need to perform perfectly on day one. If they fall off, or if their practice feels clunky, that is when they need the teacher most. We are here to provide the support and motivation to get them back on track. That is the essence of our sadhana.
