About Community Drum Circles: Open to All
These circles aren't about perfecting technique or getting every note right. It is a space to de-stress and connect. We provide the drums, so you just need to walk in, grab a seat, and follow the group flow. It is the perfect way to spend a weekend morning without the pressure of a structured class.
What to Expect
Our community drum circles at Pune Handmade Papers are designed to be entirely recreational. You do not need to be a musician to participate. We believe that if you can hear the beat, you can play it. The sessions are informal, welcoming, and open to anyone from age 8 to 81.
The Format
We typically split our gathering into two distinct segments. First, we run a short Intro Djembe Workshop to help you get comfortable with the basic sounds (bass, tone, and slap). This sets the foundation. After that, we move into the main drum circle, where the focus shifts to improvisational music making and group connection.
Why Join?
- No Gear Needed: We provide the synthetic djembes for the duration of the session.
- Connect with Others: It is a diverse group of people from all over Pune, making it a great space to meet new friends.
- De-stress: Drumming is a meditation in motion. It helps you turn off the conscious mind and just be in the rhythm.
We often operate on a gift economy principle for these sessions, allowing you to contribute what you feel is appropriate for the experience. Whether you are coming to blow off some steam after a long work week or just want to try something new, you will leave feeling lighter. Anta! (Let's go!)
