Learn Traditional West African Djembe Drumming
Discover the joy of rhythm with our traditional Djembe classes in Pune. No musical experience is needed—just bring your enthusiasm and get ready to connect with our vibrant drumming community.
This is what it's all about. People from all walks of life, coming together to find their rhythm. In our classes, you'll learn authentic West African Djembe in a fun, supportive group setting.
We have a simple philosophy: if you can say it, you can play it. I break down every rhythm into easy vocal patterns, so you can start playing from your very first class, no matter your experience level.
The joy of drumming is for everyone, especially kids. Here, our young students share the rhythm they created, called the 'BOOM-PA-EXPRESS', and talk about how drumming helps them release stress. It's pure energy.
Our community drum circles are a space for pure, in-the-moment music making. We gather, we share a beat, and we connect. It’s a powerful way to de-stress and be part of something bigger.
I'm Varun, and I'm here to invite you to our Djembe classes. It's more than just a hobby; it's a way to improve coordination, connect with new people, and have a wonderful time. Come drum with us.
Here I am, lost in the rhythm during a performance. Drumming is my passion, and I bring that same energy whether I'm on stage or teaching a class, sharing the powerful tradition of the Djembe.
Learning the Djembe is also about learning the culture. In this class, we're exploring 'Toro', a Malinke initiation rhythm from North Guinea, and the story behind it. Every beat has a history.
About this collection
You don't need to own an instrument to start. In our sessions at Kalyani Nagar and Baner, we provide a synthetic Djembe for every student, so you can walk in, pick up a beat, and join the circle immediately. If you can speak, you can play—we use a unique vocal-pattern method to make traditional rhythms accessible, even if you’ve never touched a drum in your life.
More Than Just a Beat
Drumming is meditation in motion. At Taal Inc., we follow the traditional curriculum of Grandmaster Mamady Keïta, but we keep the vibe loose and full of masti. Whether you are looking to de-stress after a long week, improve your coordination, or simply find a new community, our classes are designed to be a safe space to let go.
How Our Classes Work
We believe in a simple philosophy: if you can say it, you can play it. I break down complex West African rhythms into vocal patterns that anyone can follow. You won't just learn to hit the drum; you’ll learn the history of the rhythm, the ethnic roots of the music, and the songs that go with them.
What you get in every session:
- Authentic Curriculum: We teach West African rhythms like Kassa and Moribayassa.
- Small Batches: You get personal attention, ensuring you actually learn the technique rather than just making noise.
- Community Connection: You are not just learning an instrument; you are joining a tribe. We emphasize group bonding and having a blast together.
Practical Details
- Locations: We hold classes at Artsphere in Kalyani Nagar and H3 Preschool in Baner.
- Flexibility: Our fee structure is simple—from single walk-in trials to monthly course subscriptions. We run a 'use it or lose it' policy to keep everyone consistent.
- No Experience Needed: We see students from 8 to 81. If you are willing to learn, you belong here.
Come. Drum. Be One. Wassa Wassa!
