Become a Drum Circle Facilitator
You don't just want to play the beat anymore; you want to lead it. Our 'Find Your Inner Rhythm' intensive is where you learn to orchestrate groups, using the Djembe to build community, connection, and real change.
The first step to becoming a drum circle facilitator is learning to play a drum. This video explains how learning an instrument like the Djembe builds the rhythmic confidence needed to lead groups.
In this clip from my TEDx talk, I explain how my background in clinical psychology led me to explore the therapeutic benefits of drumming and the research behind it. This is the foundation of our facilitator training.
In this video, I share our upcoming events, including our 'Train the Trainer' workshop where you can become a certified drum circle facilitator, and a special retreat in Goa for existing facilitators.
A new year message from me, announcing the return of our Djembe classes and our upcoming drum circle facilitator's course in March. It's a chance to learn to play or learn to lead.
A shot from our students' ensemble performance. Many of our students go on to become drum circle facilitators themselves, using rhythm to create positive change in their own communities.
This image captures the essence of a drum circle. An expert facilitator guides a group with a clear objective, using drums and percussion to build rhythm and connection. This is what we teach.
A glimpse of our student ensemble. For those who want to go beyond playing and learn to lead, our 'Find Your Inner Rhythm' facilitator course is the next step.
About this collection
Before you lead, you have to play. We start with the fundamentals of West African Djembe technique because you cannot guide a group to a rhythm you haven't embodied yourself. Whether you're an HR professional, a teacher, or a therapist, you'll learn how to break down complex patterns into simple, accessible steps for anyone in the room.
From Player to Facilitator
Leading a drum circle is about more than just keeping time; it is about reading the energy of a room and guiding people toward a collective experience. Our 'Find Your Inner Rhythm' intensive is a deep dive into the craft of rhythm facilitation, designed to give you practical, repeatable tools for leading groups.
The Method
We use the TTMDA (Tam Tam Mandingue Djembe Academy) syllabus, passed down from my guru, the late Grandmaster Mamady Keïta. We follow his 'Say it, Play it' approach, which makes even intricate West African polyrhythms accessible to non-musicians. During the course, you will learn to:
- Orchestrate Groups: How to manage different skill levels in one room.
- Apply Psychology: Drawing from my background in clinical psychology, we explore how drumming impacts mental well-being and team cohesion.
- Manage Dynamics: Techniques for managing flow, intensity, and ending a session on a high note.
Who Should Join?
This course is for teachers, HR managers, therapists, or anyone looking to add a powerful tool to their leadership kit. You do not need to be a professional drummer to start, but you must have a willingness to engage. We hold these intensives at Artsphere in Kalyani Nagar and H3 Preschool in Baner, creating a space where you can focus entirely on the craft of leading. If you are ready to use rhythm for real change, let’s talk.
Taal Inc
I am Varun, and I swapped clinical psychology for the Djembe because I saw firsthand how rhythm can heal and connect. I teach the same TTMDA syllabus my guru Mamady Keïta gave me, keeping the tradition raw and real. My team and I are here to help you turn your love for drumming into a tool that brings people together.
