Classical Jugalbandi and Baithak Concerts
Experience the depth of Hindustani classical music with intimate baithaks and jugalbandi performances, where every note creates a conversational dialogue between sitar and tabla.
A short clip from our sitar and flute jugalbandi performance in Bengaluru. The back-and-forth between the instruments is always a unique and beautiful conversation.
Performing at Timbertales in Madikere, Kodagu. This baithak-style show allowed for a very close connection with the audience in a beautiful, rustic setting.
A proud guru moment performing with my student Arjun on sitar and Karthik Bhat on tabla. This is what the guru-shishya tradition is all about, sharing the stage together.
A clip of me playing a vilambit gat in Raag Yaman. This slow, meditative part of the performance allows the raag's character to unfold gradually, which is perfect for an intimate baithak setting.
A classical duet performance with me on sitar and a talented artist on tabla. The chemistry between the sitar and tabla is the heartbeat of a traditional Hindustani concert.
This is how the music is born. Here I am teaching my own composition, a drut gat in Raag Yaman, to my students. This is the real taleem, the passing on of knowledge.

About Classical Jugalbandi & Baithak Concerts
In a baithak-style concert, there is no barrier between the musician and the listener. Unlike a large stage performance, you are close enough to hear the subtle, precise nuances of the sitar strings and the tabla's resonant response. I often perform these sessions in living rooms or private halls, keeping the setting informal and focused entirely on the meditative quality of the music.
A baithak is more than just a performance; it is a shared musical journey. In this intimate format, we strip away the amplification and stage distance to return to the roots of Hindustani classical music. Whether you are hosting a small gathering or a private pooja, the focus is on the authentic exchange between the artists.
The Art of Jugalbandi
My jugalbandi performances are conversations in sound. Whether I am playing with a tabla accompanist or engaging in a duelling session with a flautist, the magic lies in the spontaneity. We do not just play pre-composed notes; we respond to one another in real-time, building on the rhythm and mood of the raag. This is the heart of our 'Guru-Shishya' tradition—listening, reacting, and creating something new in the moment.
Why Choose a Baithak?
- Deep Listening: Without the noise of a large venue, the subtle beauty of a vilambit (slow) gat in Raag Yaman can truly unfold.
- Personal Connection: It is an informal setting. You can ask questions, understand the history behind a raag, and feel the vibrations of the instrument up close.
- Authenticity: We perform in traditional attire, maintaining the sanctity of the classical art form.
Logistics and Setup
For these sessions, I keep requirements minimal. We work with the natural acoustics of your space. While I bring my sitar and typically coordinate with a professional tabla player, we only require a basic sound setup if the space is larger than a standard living room. My goal is to ensure the music remains the center of your event, creating a calm, reflective atmosphere for your guests.
