I am Sushmitha Suresh. For me, dance is a conversation between the body and soul. Explore the philosophy and passion behind Vivartana—the studio where we honor tradition and nurture every dancer's unique spark.

I was honored to be featured in the Indian Express for an article on Chennai as an artistic paradise. It is a privilege to contribute to the city's vibrant cultural fabric.

A moment of reflection in my studio. This space is where I choreograph, teach, and continue my own practice, and I'm excited to share it through my YouTube channel.

Me, my space, and I. A quiet moment in my studio, the place where creativity and tradition come together.

A fun interview for the Natyakala Conference, curated by my Guru, Rama Vaidyanathan. I feel humbled to be a small part of the vast ocean of dance history and evolution.

Just popping in to say hello. A simple, happy moment from the studio.

About Meet Your Guru: My Story & Vision

People often ask about the philosophy behind the movements I teach. Beyond the technical rigor of Adavus and Jathis, my practice at Vivartana focuses on the connection between the story you are telling and your own inner state. Whether you are prepping for an Arangetram or just starting to learn, I emphasize understanding the history and the emotion behind the dance, not just the physical steps.

Dance is, for me, a constant conversation with heritage. When I opened Vivartana in Malleswaram and Kodambakkam, my goal was to create a space that balances the strict discipline of the Guru-Shishya Parampara with a supportive, modern learning environment.

My approach isn't about rote memorization. It is about understanding the 'why' behind every hand gesture (Hastas) and rhythm (Jathis). In my studio, we value the effort and patience required to master the art form. We are here to mess up, laugh, learn, and grow together.

Why Train with Us

  • Small Batch Focus: I maintain limited class sizes of 8 to 12 students to ensure I can provide personal correction on your posture and expression.
  • Holistic Learning: We cover everything from theory and culture to the technical aspects of stage makeup and costume pairing for Arangetram debutants.
  • Accessible & Flexible: Whether you are an absolute beginner or an advanced student looking to refine your technique, we have structured paths that cater to different skill levels and locations, including online modules for those outside Chennai and Bangalore.

I believe in the evolution of dance, which is why I also cherish collaborations with other artists and conferences like the Natyakala. Every student who walks through our doors is part of this ongoing story, adding their own rhythm to our shared artistic journey.
