Selected Architectural Projects and Design Narratives
A curated selection of our work. We approach architecture as a dialogue between space, light, and the people who inhabit it, moving from initial concept models to finished, tactile structures.
A vibrant scarlet spiral staircase serves as a dynamic vertical connector in a commercial head office. This feature is not just for circulation; it is a sculptural element that brings energy and movement to the building's facade, demonstrating how functional components can become architectural art.
The double-height entrance lobby of 'The Treehouse' apartments is designed to maximize natural light and create a welcoming, open atmosphere. We integrated lush indoor planting and contemporary furniture to blur the line between the interior and the surrounding landscape, establishing a serene arrival experience for residents.
This living room from our 'Solid Void Solid' house project exemplifies our principle of indoor-outdoor integration. Full-height sliding glass doors open directly onto a private garden, extending the living space and filling the interior with natural light and ventilation, creating a seamless connection to nature.
The 'Figured Ground' university sports arena captured in action, showcasing the expansive, column-free interior enabled by a complex truss roof system. The design accommodates large-scale activities like basketball while maintaining a visual connection to the tiered seating, creating an energetic and inclusive environment for athletes and spectators.
A detail of the sculptural staircase in the 'Boxed In House', fabricated from teakwood recycled from the original demolished structure. This element is a testament to our commitment to material honesty and sustainable practices, transforming reclaimed materials into a central, artistic feature of the home.
A physical model of 'The Arcades Project', a community center designed for a gated neighborhood. This model was a critical tool in our design process, allowing us to study the interplay of form, light, and volume, particularly how the arched openings and oculus would shape the internal experience.
In this residence, the lap pool is integrated into the core of the house, acting as a natural climatic device. It helps cool the adjacent dining and living areas through evaporative cooling while creating a stunning visual centerpiece that reflects light throughout the space.
The roof garden and event space at our studio, designed as a tranquil escape within the urban environment. This area demonstrates our belief in creating social spaces that connect with nature, featuring a blend of comfortable seating, lush greenery, and a seamless transition to the outdoors.
About Featured
Every project featured here begins as a series of sketches and physical models, rather than just digital drawings. We believe that true architectural quality emerges from testing ideas in three dimensions—whether that involves fabricating a staircase from reclaimed teak or engineering a roof system to channel natural light into a lobby. If you are looking for design that prioritizes site context, long-term material viability, and human scale over fleeting trends, we should explore how your site can be rethought.
Our Approach to Architectural Design
At Thirdspace, we do not view architecture as a commodity. Whether we are designing a private weekend retreat or a large-scale university sports arena, our process remains consistent: we study the site, the existing neighborhood patterns, and the specific requirements of the inhabitants.
Why Process Matters
Architecture is not just about the final photograph. It is about the 'thinking hand'—the messy, hands-on process of making models and site visits. By testing forms through physical models, we ensure that spaces have rhythm, proper ventilation, and natural light optimization. This rigour allows us to integrate indoor and outdoor living seamlessly, using materials like raw concrete, reclaimed wood, and exposed brick that age well over time.
Services and Expertise
- Architectural Interior Execution: From structural civil changes to custom metal fabrication, we manage the entire build. We focus on spatial restructuring, including the careful demolition of non-load bearing walls to create open plans and courtyards.
- Heritage Restoration: We specialize in the adaptive reuse of vintage structures. This includes structural retrofitting, waterproofing, and the preservation of original elements like colonial-era doors or mosaic tiles, while updating the electrical and plumbing infrastructure for modern use.
- Consultancy and Supervision: For clients who require architectural guidance, we offer GFC (Good For Construction) drawing sets, material curation, and periodic site supervision to ensure the design intent is maintained during execution.
We operate primarily across Pune, Belagavi, and Bengaluru, taking on projects that allow us to leave the built environment better than we found it.
