The yoga hall in the early morning light, a sacred space for practice and contemplation. This is where we gather for daily asana, pranayama, and lectures on Vedanta philosophy.
I often take time to contemplate the teachings while looking out over the peaceful landscape of the Amboli hills from the ashram veranda. This environment is conducive to deep reflection and study.
A silent walk, or 'mauna', through the natural landscape surrounding the ashram. This practice of observing silence helps to quiet the internal chatter and cultivate a state of mindful awareness.

About The Ashram: A Space for Sadhana
Understand that life here is not a vacation. We maintain a rigorous daily schedule starting at 5:30 AM, involving shared accommodation, simple sattvic vegetarian meals, and mandatory daily Karma Yoga in the gardens or ashram premises. This simplicity is intentional—by removing modern comforts and distractions, you create the necessary space for inward reflection and the practice of Sadhana.
Our Approach to Ashram Life
Our ashram in the Amboli hills of Maharashtra serves as a container for your spiritual practice. We do not offer luxury amenities; instead, we provide a structured, supportive environment that mirrors the simplicity of traditional ashram living. The goal is to strip away the external layers of daily life to allow the mind to settle.
The Daily Rhythm
- Discipline: Days begin at 5:30 AM. Attendance at morning and evening Satsang, as well as all meditation and Asana classes, is expected.
- Karma Yoga: You will contribute one hour of daily selfless service. Whether gardening or assisting in ashram upkeep, this practice is not just labor—it is a way to integrate mindfulness into physical action.
- Diet: We serve simple, sattvic vegetarian meals. This diet is chosen for its lightness, which supports long hours of study and meditation without weighing down the body.
Why Amboli?
Nature is a teacher. The quiet, misty hills of Amboli provide a rare silence that is almost impossible to find in urban environments. This natural solitude aids in the practice of Mauna (silence) and introspection. Whether you are here for a foundational week or an advanced philosophy intensive, the physical setting of the ashram is the first step in helping you disconnect from the world and reconnect with your inner spark.
