About Vedanta Philosophy & Jnana Yoga
I teach by breaking down complex scriptures, like the Tatvabodha, on a whiteboard to turn abstract concepts into practical tools for your daily life. We do not engage in dry theoretical lectures; instead, we analyze the states of waking, dream, and deep sleep to understand the nature of your own mind, making Jnana Yoga a living, relatable experience.
Understanding Vedanta and Jnana Yoga
Vedanta is not merely a philosophy to be read; it is a systematic investigation into the nature of the Self. When we study texts like the Upanishads or the Bhagavad Gita, we are asking the most essential question: "Who am I?" This enquiry, known as Jnana Yoga, is the path of knowledge. It is designed to cut through the confusion of the mind and reveal the unchanging truth that lies beneath our daily anxieties and emotions.
The Sivananda Lineage Approach
My teaching is rooted in the Sivananda lineage, which emphasizes that spiritual practice (Sadhana) must be balanced with clear intellectual understanding. We do not shy away from the hard questions. Whether you are a beginner starting with an introduction to Tatvabodha or an experienced practitioner diving into the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, the objective remains the same: to find clarity.
Where We Study
- The Ashram in Amboli: Our residential courses provide a controlled, sattvic environment. Removing modern distractions allows the mind to settle, making it possible to grasp subtler Vedantic concepts that are difficult to internalize in the noise of city life.
- Online Sessions: For those unable to travel, I conduct sessions on the Bhagavad Gita and classical texts. These online classes ensure that the teachings of this tradition remain accessible, providing a community of students who study together in real-time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need prior yoga experience? No. While our advanced intensives require prior training, our foundational Vedanta courses are open to anyone with a sincere desire to learn. You do not need to be a yoga teacher to understand the science of the Self.
What can I expect in a session? Expect discipline. We mix chanting, guided meditation, and rigorous textual study. My goal is to guide you to your own inner spark rather than having you simply follow instructions.
