About Pranayama: The Art of Yogic Breathing
In our workshops, we do not just teach breathing; we guide you through the precise mechanics of Nadi Shodhana and Kumbhaka. Our sessions start early, at 6:00 AM, focusing on specific breath ratios, like 1:4:2, to help you regulate your internal state before your day begins.
Pranayama is far more than simple breathing exercises. It is the control and extension of your prana, or vital life force. In our Dwarka centre, we follow the Sivananda lineage, which emphasizes a structured approach to these practices to ensure they are done safely and effectively.
What to Expect
Our workshops are designed for anyone, whether you are a complete beginner or a practitioner looking to refine your technique. We hold sessions in our traditional, non-AC yoga hall, focusing on:
- Breath Mechanics: Learning how to inhale, exhale, and retain breath using techniques like Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) to balance your energy.
- Stress Management: Understanding how specific breathing patterns can soothe the nervous system and help manage anxiety.
- Group Energy: Practicing in a group setting amplifies focus, making it easier to maintain concentration during longer sessions.
Practical Details
These workshops typically run for 1.5 to 2 hours. We ask that you arrive on an empty stomach, as pranayama practices should never be performed after a heavy meal. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a towel. Because our space is traditional, we use floor cushions for seating, though chairs are available if you have trouble sitting on the ground. We teach you the foundations so you can confidently carry this practice into your daily life at home. If you are interested in deepening your knowledge, these sessions serve as an excellent bridge to our meditation and mantra courses.
Sivananda Yoga
We are a nonprofit yoga centre in Dwarka dedicated to the teachings of Swami Vishnudevananda. We believe yoga is a way of life, not just physical exercise, and we invite you to join our workshops to experience this traditional path toward health and peace.
