This was my first attempt at performing a Dhamaar on stage, a composition in Raag Bihag. It was only with the constant encouragement of my Guru, Vidushi Sahana Banerjee Didi, that I found the courage. This performance is a tribute to the Dhrupad baaj of our Rampur Senia Gharana.
The journey of learning the sitar is a beautiful one, built on the timeless tradition of Guru-Shishya Parampara. Here you can see the beginning of a melodious journey with a new student, focusing on the fundamentals and nurturing a deep connection with the instrument from the very first day.
A glimpse into my daily riyaz, or practice, in Raag Bilaskhani Todi with my friend on the tabla. For me, sadhana is not just about perfection but about the continuous effort. This is a humble attempt to bring more musicality into the practice of Gamak, a core technique in Hindustani classical music.

During a Sitar Utsav, I focused on presenting the Dhrupad baaj of our Gharana, a style known for its depth and meditative quality. This is a clip of the Kharaj Jor in Raag Bihag, an introspective section that sets the mood before the main composition begins.
There is a special energy when students come together to learn. This was a wonderful evening during a Bijoya special group class in Gurgaon. We learn not just from the Guru, but from each other, creating a small community of music lovers.

About Featured
When I teach, we do not rush. We focus heavily on the basics: correct posture, how to hold the Tumba, and understanding the grammar of the Raga. My lessons follow the traditional Guru-Shishya Parampara, where we sit on the floor and build a strong foundation for the meditative quality of the sound before moving to complex compositions.
Music is a continuous journey. My approach is strictly traditional, focusing on the Dhrupad baaj and Alaap to ensure the instrument produces its intended resonance. Whether you are an absolute beginner or an advanced player looking to correct techniques like Meend and Gamaks, my goal is to guide you toward musicality rather than just rote learning.
I offer in-person classes at my studio in New Gurgaon and online sessions for students further away. For beginners, I provide guidance on purchasing a sitar, as using a low-quality instrument can hinder your progress early on. We work on swaron ka gyaan and sargam, slowly moving toward Ragas like Yaman, Bhairav, and Miyan ki Malhar. Advanced students will work on Jor, Jhaala, and bandishes, preparing for stage performances and Baithaks.
The philosophy here is riyaaz. It requires patience and discipline, but the result is a deeper connection to the music. If you have been looking for a teacher who values the soul of the instrument as much as the technique, you are welcome to join my practice.
