About Featured
Learning tabla with me is a commitment to the 'Guru-Shishya' tradition, where we prioritize the purity of 'Nikash' (sound production) above all else. Whether you are correcting your 'Tit' and 'Tirikit' in a one-on-one session or joining a group lecture, my focus remains on the precise mechanics of the Delhi Gharana style. You will not just learn to play; you will learn the mathematics of rhythm and the spiritual 'Sadhana' required to master the instrument.
The Delhi Gharana Legacy
My teaching is a direct continuation of the style perfected by my Guru, Ustad Chhamma Khan. The Delhi Gharana is known for its tonal clarity and the specific use of the 'Kinar' (edge) and 'Syahi' (center) to produce distinct, melodious bols. In my lessons, we do not bypass the basics; we obsess over them. From understanding the mathematical structure of 'Layakari' to executing a clean 'Rela', every technique is taught to ensure you develop an authentic sound.
How We Learn Online
Geography is no barrier to music. Since 2005, through the Sangeetika School of Music, I have trained students from diverse backgrounds—from Russia to Bangladesh to India. I utilize high-fidelity audio setups to ensure that even through a screen, you can hear the tonal nuances of my playing.
We cover:
- Technique Correction: One-on-one sessions addressing specific issues like finger placement for clarity.
- Theory & Math: Deciphering complex Taals and rhythmic cycles.
- Accompaniment: How to play with vocalists, instrumentalists, and dance performances.
The Path of Sadhana
I often tell my students that tabla is a meditation. It is not just about the speed of your fingers; it is about finding the 'lay' or the rhythm of your life. Whether you are a young learner just starting or a professional looking to refine your 'Nikash', the path requires patience, discipline, and consistent 'Riyaz' (practice). Join me if you are ready to approach this art with the devotion it deserves.
