About Live Sitar Performance
What My Sitar Brings
Music is sadhana for me, not just a show. I play from the Rampur Senia Gharana, known for its deep, meditative vibe. My sitar isn’t about impressing people, it’s more about sharing something real, something that goes straight to the heart. I owe everything to my gurus – jo seekha hai, wohi baant raha hoon (whatever I’ve learned, I’m just sharing).
How a Performance Feels
Every show is its own journey through a Raag.
- Start with alaap, slow and open – no beat, just letting the raag breathe.
- Then jor and jhaala, where rhythm builds, tempo picks up, and it gets more intense.
- End with gats, fixed compositions with tabla, sometimes sprinting to a fast finish.
I try to create a mood that’s peaceful and deep, not just background noise.
Where I Play
- Love baithak music sessions, close-up gigs where everyone’s really listening.
- For corporate or formal events, my sitar sets a calm, unique mood – way different from the usual.
- I’m often at satsangs and spiritual gatherings, playing stuff that matches the sacred feel.
- Jugalbandi events with tabla or bansuri? Always up for it, brings out something new every time.
My Setlist
You’ll hear anything from pure classical sitar concert pieces to bhajans, Bengali devotional songs, and even Rabindra Sangeet or light patriotic tunes. Galti ho jaaye toh chhota bhai samajh ke maaf kar dena (forgive small mistakes like a younger brother). I’m still learning, always will be.
Meet your Expert
Shubhrodeep Pathak
My Story
Hey, I’m Shubhrodeep. Sitar player, compulsive singer, music addict. I used to sit at my office desk, choking to sing out loud—rain made it worse! My life is all music, thanks to my gurus. Mithu Kaku always said, ‘Ek Saadhey, Sab Saadhey’ (master one, master all). So, I lived in Raag Yaman for years. Now, I play for my gurus, for the joy, for the rain, for the mystery. Music is my never-ending adventure.
My Work
Sitar Classes (Online & In-Person) - I teach sitar to anyone above 10, in Gurgaon/NCR or online. Learn Rampur Senia Gharana style.
Concerts & Events - I perform meditative classical music at concerts, baithaks, jugalbandis, and even corporate gigs.
Teaching Philosophy - Music is fun—sometimes we play Jingle Bells! Main thing: get swaron ka gyaan. Age doesn’t matter.
Style & Approach - Focus on Dhrupad sitar lessons, Alaap, Kharaj. Not just entertainment—music for the soul, for contemplation.
Learning Process - It’s all about riyaaz, discipline, and sadhana. Extra effort makes the difference. Galti Maaf, I’m still learning too.
