Mastering Pranayama: Traditional Breathwork in Mumbai
Pranayama is more than just breathing. It is the science of extending life energy. Learn to reduce anxiety and find mental clarity through step-by-step techniques grounded in ancient texts.
The ancient texts compare controlling the breath to taming a wild animal. It must be done slowly, carefully, and under the guidance of a guru. In my sessions, I share shlokas from the Upanishads to explain why technique is so critical in pranayama.
Our morning batch is dedicated to building a strong foundation with Surya Namaskar, Kriyas, and Pranayama. We focus on mastering the breath to reduce stress, improve organ function, and create a powerful connection between the body and mind.
About Pranayama: The Science of Breath
If you try to practice intense breathing exercises like Kumbhaka (breath retention) on your own, you might do more harm than good. In our sessions, we start with the basics of conscious breathing and gradually introduce these advanced techniques only when your body is prepared, ensuring your practice is safe and effective.
Why Breathwork Needs Proper Guidance
Many people think breathing is natural, so they try to force it. In the ancient texts, the breath is compared to a wild animal—it must be tamed carefully. If you go too fast, you risk disrupting your nervous system instead of calming it.
Our Approach to Pranayama
I focus on the traditional sequence of yoga. We don't just jump into deep breath retention. We prepare the body first.
- Shuddhi Kriyas: We begin by clearing the channels. Techniques like Jalneti and Kapalabhati are essential to remove the effects of city pollution and stress.
- Conscious Breathing: We move to simple, controlled breathing to build capacity.
- Kumbhaka: Once the base is strong, we introduce breath retention to help manage anxiety and improve focus.
Who Is This For?
These sessions are for anyone in Mumbai looking to go deeper. Whether you are dealing with constant stress, need to improve your lung capacity, or want to understand the philosophy behind why we breathe the way we do, you are welcome. We hold these sessions at our Ghatkopar East studio in small, disciplined batches. We don't rush. We don't show off. We show up, we practice, and we get better than yesterday. Bas practice karte raho.
