A Murtikar's Devotion: Handcrafted Ganpati Idols
In my karkhana, every idol is a living bond. These are not just murtis, they are pieces of my heart, sculpted over months to bring divine energy into your home.
This is the most personal part of my work. In this video, I share the deep emotional connection I feel with each Bappa I create and the heartfelt pain of seeing them leave my workshop. It is a bond I cherish every year.
A personal, emotional moment with one of my Ganpati creations before it leaves for its new home. This connection I feel with every idol, big or small, is what makes this art so meaningful to me.
About A Murtikar's Devotion
Every idol I sculpt begins with a block of Shadu Mati and a prayer. I personally oversee every stage, from the anatomical sculpting to the hyper-realistic eye painting. Because I only take a few commissions each year to maintain this standard, I recommend planning your booking well in advance of the festival.
My work as a murtikar is a spiritual practice. Whether it is a small 2ft home idol or a large-scale project, the process remains the same. I use eco-friendly Shadu Mati, reinforced with natural jute, ensuring no plastic enters your home. The 'ankhni' or eye painting is done by me personally because the gaze determines the life of the murti. I avoid molds, choosing to hand-sculpt every curve. This dedication means I cannot mass-produce; I craft for those who value the spirit in the art. If you are looking for a unique Ganpati for your celebrations, I invite you to visit my Lalbaug karkhana. We can discuss your vision, the pose, and the attire, ensuring the idol fits your home's aesthetic perfectly.
