We integrate yoga into your healing journey as a medical tool, not just a fitness activity. Our doctor-led sessions are gentle, restorative, and specifically designed to support recovery from chronic stiffness and pain.

An outdoor yoga session in the morning sun. Practicing in nature enhances the healing benefits, connecting your breath with the serene environment to calm your mind and body.

Our yoga instructor guides guests through gentle warm-up exercises. Proper guidance is key to ensuring that movements are safe and effective for those with chronic pain conditions.

Guests practice simple, guided stretches on our lush green lawn. The fresh air and natural surroundings create a perfect setting for a therapeutic yoga practice that rejuvenates the body.

A group of guests practicing Tadasana (Mountain Pose) with arms raised. This asana helps improve posture and create space in the spine, which can alleviate back pain.

A full class of guests engaged in a morning yoga session. The sense of community and shared purpose adds another layer of healing to the experience.

An instructor leads a side-bending posture, which helps to stretch the muscles along the sides of the body and improve spinal flexibility.

Guests practice a standing asana with arms raised, focusing on alignment and breath. Consistent practice helps build strength and stability in the body.

Our yoga master guides the class through a series of movements designed to gently open up the body and prepare it for deeper stretches.

Another view of our outdoor yoga class, showing guests of all ages and abilities participating. We make yoga accessible to everyone, regardless of their fitness level.

Guests stretch in unison during an outdoor class, with our main retreat building in the background. This is a core part of the daily routine at Shathayu.

About Yoga for Healing and Mobility

You won't find high-intensity gym workouts here. Instead, our yoga sessions are planned by our Ayurvedic physicians to complement your specific treatments, like Kati Basti or Abhyanga. We prioritize safety and alignment, using asanas and pranayama to create space in your joints and calm your nervous system, ensuring your movement supports rather than hinders your healing.

Why Yoga for Healing?

In a clinical setting, yoga is a medical tool. We do not teach fitness classes. Our yoga therapists ensure every movement matches your current health status, whether you are dealing with spondylosis, arthritis, or post-injury stiffness.

Our Clinical Approach

  • Personalized Asanas: If you are here for chronic back pain, you will not perform strenuous standing poses. We focus on restorative postures that relieve spinal pressure and gently increase flexibility.
  • Pranayama for Pain: We use Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) and other techniques to downregulate your nervous system. When your system is in a stressed state, inflammation remains high. Breathwork is our first step in lowering that physiological stress.
  • The Safety Standard: Every session is monitored. We teach you techniques you can safely continue at home. Our goal is not just to help you move better while you are at our Devanahalli retreat, but to equip you with habits that manage your condition long-term.

What to Expect

Expect morning sessions that are often outdoors, overlooking our lake and hills, which adds a therapeutic layer of nature-based healing. If the weather does not permit, we move to our dedicated indoor yoga hall. Whether you are a beginner or a regular practitioner, we adjust the intensity to your physical capability to prevent injury and promote recovery.
