Food at Shathayu is treated as medicine. Our meals are prepared under medical guidance to restore your Dosha balance and support your healing journey.

A guest enjoys a nourishing meal in our dining hall. Our food is designed to boost immunity naturally, using fresh, wholesome ingredients.

A glass of buttermilk, a traditional Ayurvedic drink that aids digestion, is a perfect complement to our sattvic meals.

About Sattvic Dining: Food as Medicine

We do not offer a standard menu. Every meal served during your stay is prescribed by our Ayurvedic physicians following your Nadi Pariksha, or pulse diagnosis. We remove processed ingredients, excess salt, and spices from our kitchen, focusing instead on Sattvic principles that allow your digestion to rest while your body absorbs the benefits of your daily therapies.

Food as Part of Your Therapy

In Ayurveda, the digestive fire, or Agni, is the cornerstone of health. If your digestion is impaired, the body cannot fully process the treatments or herbal decoctions provided during your stay. This is why we control the kitchen with the same precision we apply to our medical procedures.

Customization by Dosha

Upon arrival, our doctors assess your primary Dosha—Vata, Pitta, or Kapha. Your dietary plan is then mapped to this assessment:

  • Vata-balancing: Warm, grounding, and easily digestible foods to calm the nervous system.
  • Pitta-balancing: Cooling, fresh, and soothing ingredients to reduce internal inflammation.
  • Kapha-balancing: Light, stimulating, and vibrant foods to promote metabolic activity.

The Daily Routine

Expect honest, vegetarian, and nutrient-dense meals. You will not find refined sugars, artificial preservatives, or addictive stimulants here. Your meals are accompanied by herbal teas and medicinal waters, which you should sip throughout the day to support your detoxification. This structured, clean eating approach is designed to help you break free from dietary habits that contribute to chronic pain and inflammation, leaving you with a clearer understanding of what your body truly needs to function at its best.
