Featured Urban Design and Civic Infrastructure Projects
We believe architecture in Mumbai should be about more than aesthetics. It should be functional, civic-minded, and designed to improve the daily life of the city’s residents.
**Hero Item.** A walkthrough of the transformed Bandra Station area. This video highlights the key functional improvements we implemented, including the revamped, user-friendly rickshaw stand, widened pedestrian-friendly walkways, and a more organized, accessible environment for commuters.
The opening day of the Bandstand Central Park, a project focused on creating vital community spaces. This image captures the essence of our work: designing places for people, where children can play freely and families can enjoy a moment of respite by the sea.
A summary of a feature on our Bandra Station redevelopment in the publication 'Citizen Matters'. This article provides third-party validation of our process, detailing how we moved from the "roots of disorder" to a streamlined, functional public transit hub.
An elevated view of the completed Bandra Station project. This perspective clearly shows the new, organized traffic lanes, dedicated pedestrian zones, and improved flow that replaced the previous congestion, directly benefiting the thousands of daily commuters.
Scenes from our public presentation of the Bandra Station promenade project. We believe in a collaborative process, and this shows our engagement with key stakeholders, including officials from the BMC and local representatives, to ensure the design serves the community's needs.
The BMW Guggenheim Lab pavilion we designed in collaboration with Atelier Bow Wow. This project showcases our versatility and our work on the international stage, exploring sustainable materials like bamboo to create temporary public structures for dialogue and art.
A photograph from the night we began the on-ground line-out for the Bandra Station project. This moment, seven years after our initial proposal, represents our firm's long-term commitment and persistence in bringing complex, impactful public projects to fruition.
About Featured
Designing public infrastructure like transit hubs requires rigorous traffic logic. We spend extensive time mapping movement patterns—whether it is rickshaws, pedestrians, or buses—before we begin drafting. This methodology ensures our designs for zones like the Bandra Station area effectively reduce congestion and create genuinely safer, more organized environments for thousands of daily commuters.
Our approach to architecture moves beyond static building design. We focus on tactical urbanism, the practice of testing, tweaking, and scaling smart interventions that address real-world problems. Whether it is redesigning a chaotic railway station area or planning a neighborhood park, our process is rooted in dialogue and data.
The Bandra Station Case Study
This project serves as a prime example of our work in multimodal integration. Facing a daily influx of 500,000 commuters, the area required more than just a visual upgrade. By creating dedicated lanes for auto-rickshaws, widening pedestrian walkways, and utilizing durable, public-grade materials like 80mm interlocking pavers, we reduced conflict points between commuters and vehicles. We don't believe in temporary solutions; we design for long-term endurance.
Community and Sustainability
We believe that public spaces define the character of a city. Our work on the Bandstand Park involved creating inclusive zones—balancing high-energy playgrounds with quiet areas for senior citizens. We curate planting palettes using hardy, native species that survive the harsh urban roadside environment while minimizing water usage. We also prioritize universal accessibility, ensuring all our landscape plans incorporate wheelchair and pram-friendly paths.
Our Design Philosophy
We see ourselves as advocates for Mumbai. We do not just accept site constraints; we interrogate them. From our work with the BMW Guggenheim Lab exploring sustainable bamboo structures to municipal infrastructure, every project is an exercise in function-led design. We prioritize sustainable, functional spaces that people use and appreciate every day, focusing on the spaces in between buildings as much as the structures themselves.
