Redesigning Transit Hubs for Commuter Efficiency
When 500,000 commuters pass through a single point daily, every meter of space matters. This is our approach to untangling urban congestion at Bandra Station.
Our initial design concepts and site plans for the Bandra Station Improvement Project, as published in the Indian Architect & Builder (IFJ) magazine. These drawings laid the foundation for the area's comprehensive redevelopment.

The installation of new planters and a public-facing site map. This showcases our attention to detail, providing both greenery and clear navigational information for users of the space.

About Transforming Transit Hubs: The Bandra Station Story
The primary challenge at any transit hub is conflicting movement. At Bandra Station, we did not just pave the area; we implemented a traffic logic system that physically separated rickshaw queues from pedestrian walkways. If you are planning an urban intervention, understand that long-term success relies on these specific, conflict-free zoning strategies that respect existing commuter patterns.
Urban transit hubs require more than just aesthetic upgrades. Our work at Bandra Station utilized tactical urbanism to address the severe congestion faced by half a million daily commuters. We focused on multimodal integration, creating defined lanes that allow public transport, private vehicles, and pedestrians to coexist without the usual friction of an Indian railway station entrance.
The Methodology of Our Intervention
We approach every transit project through a lens of functionality and durability:
- Traffic Logic Design: Using movement mapping to create clear, segregated lanes for rickshaws and commuters. This eliminates the choke points that usually plague these areas.
- Civil Engineering: We prioritize public-grade materials, such as 80mm interlocking pavers and flame-finished granite, designed to withstand heavy, round-the-clock footfall.
- Infrastructure Sustainability: Every design includes drainage slopes and sub-soil management to prevent the waterlogging that often damages public infrastructure during the Mumbai monsoon.
- Stakeholder Integration: We work directly with local authorities and vendors to ensure that new queue systems and hawker zones respect the livelihoods of those already operating in the space.
Why Strategic Planning Matters
Waiting for massive city-wide budgets often leads to stagnation. By focusing on tactical, high-impact fixes, we help municipal bodies and community groups implement real change quickly. This includes the preparation of detailed approval dockets for the BMC and Traffic Police, ensuring the design is not just a concept, but a compliant, executable plan. Whether you are looking to fix a transit node or reorganize a public street, we provide the technical documentation, civil detailing, and vision planning to turn a chaotic space into a functional asset for the city.
