About Architectural Design
What Drives Our Designs
I see architecture as more than just putting up walls and roofs. It’s about shaping spaces that people actually feel connected to, especially in a city like Mumbai where every corner tells a story. What we build, what we keep, all that ends up changing the city bit by bit.
How I Work: From Idea to Reality
My process is pretty hands-on. I like to start with proper conversations, getting to know what you want and what the space needs. I use a mix of hand sketches, physical models, and then digital tools like AutoCAD or SketchUp. This way, I can try out every possibility before we lock anything in.
What I’ve Built
- Homes that breathe: I focus on sustainable residential architecture, like using local materials and passive cooling techniques in architecture. For example, in Pune, I built around trees and used mud and stone so the house actually feels cool in the summer.
- Weekend retreats: Whether it’s a lakeside bungalow at Pavna or a wooden cabin, I pay attention to making each place feel like it belongs right there in nature.
- Adaptive reuse architecture: Projects like transforming a river cruise boat into a floating restaurant (like 'Queensline-Sea Yah') let me combine technical skills with creativity.
- Public spaces: I’ve worked on redesigning busy places like Bandra Station with wider walkways and green spaces, and designed parks with the local community.
- Institutional and industrial: I’ve handled everything from preschools to hangars, so I’m comfortable with complex and functional design too.
Why I Do This
For me, being an architect means staying involved in conversations about how our cities grow and how we can do better. I genuinely care about thoughtful, practical changes—sometimes that means joining talks on urban planning, sometimes it’s just listening to what people in the neighborhood actually need.

My Story
Hey, we’re SDM Architects. Books and architecture kinda blend for us - both can flip your thinking, open up new worlds. Mumbai’s chaos keeps us on our toes, but also makes us want to give back, like turning Bandra station into something people can actually use, or making parks for kids. Our team’s always talking, debating, swapping ideas. Samir’s got his kid’s photo on his desk, headset and all - maybe future architect in the making.
My Work
Architecture & Interior Design Services - We design everything from bungalows to industrial buildings, floating restaurants, and urban public spaces.
Public Spaces for Mumbai - Projects like Bandra Station Improvement focus on pedestrian-friendly urban design for daily commuters.
Child-Friendly Interiors - For places like JOY Preschool, we create custom preschool interiors that are safe, playful, and multi-use.
Adaptive Reuse & Sustainability - We love adaptive reuse projects - like turning a river cruise boat into a floating restaurant, using sustainable design.
Design Through Dialogue - We build by debating, not just drawing. Our work is shaped by real discussions about cities and heritage.
