Signature Architectural Narratives and Design Concepts

Architecture is the art of creating stories through space. This collection captures our approach—where context meets intention, and every project seeks to resonate with its surroundings.

This is Baia Villas, a project where I aimed to create more than just vacation homes. I wanted to capture the 'susegad' spirit of Mandrem, Goa, by designing a pedestrian-only community with asymmetrical alleyways and shared courtyards. The architecture, with its bold colors and forms, is a dialogue between the edgy and the romantic, creating a space that allows you to live the Goan life, or let Goa live in you.

For the Evershine House in Bandra, I envisioned a tower that contributes to the streetscape rather than just occupying it. The design draws inspiration from the architectural language of historic South Bombay, reinterpreting its arched windows and rhythmic proportions with a contemporary edge. It is a landmark that bridges heritage and modernity in one of Mumbai's most vibrant neighborhoods.

My process often involves fabricating the terrain itself to serve the design's function. For this clubhouse, I created a stepped-down L-shaped volume with integrated green roofs and walkable spaces. This approach allows the structure to merge with the landscape, creating a multi-layered environment that balances privacy with a deep connection to nature.

I often ask, can our buildings be more inviting? For this office tower on Turner Road, I designed a public plaza that extends the street life into the building's threshold. This concept of participatory urbanism creates an interactive ground level, making the tower an integral part of Bandra's urban fabric rather than a disconnected structure.

This is a glimpse of the Sea Sky Villas under construction, a project deeply rooted in its natural surroundings. The challenging hillside terrain was not an obstacle, but an inspiration. The design works with the land's topography, weaving the structure into the environment to create a unique living experience with uninterrupted views.

I believe placemaking is not just about creating spaces, but about crafting experiences that resonate with those who inhabit them. A building becomes more than its structure when it evokes emotion, fosters connection, and enriches daily life. This philosophy is the foundation of every project I undertake.

This aerial view of Baia Villas, featured in Design Pataki, shows the master plan in action. The six identical homes are arranged symmetrically along a central axis, creating a tightly knit beachside community. Each villa includes a private pool and courtyard, fostering a sense of both personal sanctuary and shared experience.

About this collection

Every project here began not with a blueprint, but with a walk across the site. I listen to the land—its slopes, the way light hits at noon, and what locals value most—before drafting a single line. This approach ensures that whether it is a villa in Goa or an office tower in Bandra, the final structure feels like it has always belonged to that place.

Architecture is a dialogue between the built form and its environment. Whether we are master planning gated communities in Mandrem, Goa, or reimagining vertical density in Mumbai, our design philosophy remains anchored in what I call 'quiet confidence.' We avoid trends in favor of timelessness. My process involves deep-dive site feasibility studies—analyzing topography, solar paths, and regulatory FSI limits—to ensure every development is not only aesthetically resonant but also structurally and economically viable.

We prioritize sustainable local materials and terrain-responsive strategies. You will see this in projects where we integrate green roofs, floating decks, and permeable ground floors to blur the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces. This is architecture that breathes, designed to be lived in rather than just admired. From the initial hand-sketched concept plans to the final volume, we focus on creating environments that offer both privacy and a deep, immersive connection to the landscape. If you are looking for design that respects history while embracing the future, let us explore the potential of your site together.

I'm Jugal Mistri. I started JMA in 2012 to move away from loud, cookie-cutter designs and focus on buildings that actually belong to their environment. I believe in reading the history and spirit of a site before I draw a single line, creating architecture that acts as a bridge between the landscape and the people who inhabit it.
