Luxury Residential & Vacation Home Interiors
Design & Spatial Configuration
- Context-Aware Layouts: Orientation of living spaces to maximize natural light and cross-ventilation, often involving removal of internal walls.
- Indoor-Outdoor Integration: Seamless flooring transitions between interior living rooms and exterior decks or patios using large-span glazing.
Structural & Ceiling Aesthetics
- Exposed Structural Elements: Aesthetic treatment of roof trusses, beams, and columns (wood or metal) to create volume rather than hiding them behind false ceilings.
- Volume Management: Handling double-height spaces and mezzanines common in bungalows and vacation homes.
Finishes & Fixtures
- Natural Material Palette: Extensive use of local natural stones (Kota, Granite), solid wood, and textured plasters suitable for local weather conditions.
- Custom Woodwork: Walk-in wardrobes, island kitchens, and vanity units using premium veneers and weather-resistant coatings.
- Sustainability: Integration of passive cooling techniques and structural rain protection elements.
High-End Hospitality & Commercial Interiors
Scope of Work
- Architectural Interior Planning: Adaptive re-use layouts to convert non-standard spaces into functional venues and circulation planning for high footfall.
- Structural Interventions: Modification of shell structures to create open-plan spaces and reinforcement for heavy installations.
- Invisible MEP Design: Sourcing and integration of specialized HVAC systems (like concealed Japanese units) to ensure climate control remains visually unobtrusive.
Material Palette & Finishes
- Authentic Material Curation: Usage of solid Indian Teak wood, marine-grade timber, and natural stone rather than synthetic laminates.
- Custom Metal Fabrication: Installation of bespoke brass elements (inlays, railings, bar fronts) and sculptural metalworks.
- Parametric Ceiling Features: Complex wooden ceiling treatments designed to blur boundaries between walls and low ceilings.
Furniture & Decor
- Bespoke Furniture Design: Custom-designed and fabricated seating tailored to the specific theme.
- Lighting Design: Layered lighting plans involving mood lighting for evening ambiance and task lighting for service areas.
Institutional & Educational Interiors

- Ergonomic Zoning: Creating distinct zones via color-coding for independent navigation.
Custom Furniture & Play Elements
- Age-Appropriate Fabrication: Manufacturing of custom hexagonal collaborative tables and ergonomic chairs suited for specific age groups.
- Integrated Play Structures: Built-in climbing walls, sensory feature walls, and interactive joinery that merges play with learning.
- Storage Solutions: Low-height, accessible storage units integrated into walls.
Finishes & Services
- Specialized Flooring: Installation of impact-absorbing flooring (vinyl, cork, or rubber) to prevent injuries.
- Acoustic & Lighting Control: Sound-dampening ceiling baffles or wall panels coupled with flicker-free LED lighting.
About Interior Design
How We See Interiors
For us, interior design isn’t just about pretty walls or fancy furniture. It’s about making spaces that mean something to people. We dig into how folks actually live, work, and interact in their environment, so every detail has a reason behind it. Sometimes that means going beyond trends and figuring out what really fits the vibe of a place.
What We Do Best
- Hospitality spots and commercial venues: We’ve got experience with high-end restaurants and bars where the look is just as vital as the experience.
- Institutional interiors: Think schools and daycare centres where safety and smart space planning matter. We put a lot into making these spaces both fun and functional.
- Residential spaces: We’re all about homes that feel personal, sometimes bringing in natural materials and making sure light and air flow freely.
A Few Stories
- We transformed a basic cruise boat into a floating restaurant near Gateway of India. Used Indian Teak wood and brass, subtly nodding to desi maritime heritage. The ceilings were low, so we got creative with tree-like wood elements. Kept the interiors simple because, honestly, the Mumbai skyline does the talking.
- Designed a daycare in Mumbai where passageways double up as meeting spots, and the furniture is safe for little ones. Kids get colourful classrooms and even a mini climbing wall.
Our Way of Working
- Context comes first - we look at the history, surroundings, and what’s actually needed.
- Sustainable material choices matter to us; lots of natural finishes, open windows, and cross-ventilation.
- We use physical models to help everyone see and feel the space before it’s built. It’s not always perfect, but it saves a lot of confusion later.
If you want interiors with some real thought and heart behind them, we’re here.

My Story
Hey, we’re SDM Architects. Books and architecture kinda blend for us - both can flip your thinking, open up new worlds. Mumbai’s chaos keeps us on our toes, but also makes us want to give back, like turning Bandra station into something people can actually use, or making parks for kids. Our team’s always talking, debating, swapping ideas. Samir’s got his kid’s photo on his desk, headset and all - maybe future architect in the making.
My Work
Architecture & Interior Design Services - We design everything from bungalows to industrial buildings, floating restaurants, and urban public spaces.
Public Spaces for Mumbai - Projects like Bandra Station Improvement focus on pedestrian-friendly urban design for daily commuters.
Child-Friendly Interiors - For places like JOY Preschool, we create custom preschool interiors that are safe, playful, and multi-use.
Adaptive Reuse & Sustainability - We love adaptive reuse projects - like turning a river cruise boat into a floating restaurant, using sustainable design.
Design Through Dialogue - We build by debating, not just drawing. Our work is shaped by real discussions about cities and heritage.
