Large-Scale Historical Live Paintings
Watch history and art come alive on massive canvases during your event. I create high-impact, custom acrylic paintings, transforming a blank surface into a central attraction for your guests.
Watch the process behind the large-scale Maratha history painting at the Thane Art Festival. I work with acrylics, building up layers to create depth and detail, all while the audience watches the artwork evolve from a blank canvas.
The final 60x36 inch acrylic painting of Aai Bhavani and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. This piece is a tribute to a relief sculpture by Padma Shree Vinayak Karmarkar and shows how I can adapt historical art into a live painting format.
Posing with a fellow artist and my completed painting at the Thane Art Festival. These events are a great way to connect with the community and share the artistic process.
About Large-Scale Historical Paintings
When you book a large-scale performance, remember that I am not just creating a finished piece; I am creating an experience. I need adequate space and lighting at your venue to ensure the crowd can see the layers build up over the 6-hour duration. This is not about quiet studio work. It is about managing the energy of the event while ensuring the historical details—like the relief work I did for the Shivaji Maharaj piece—stay sharp and accurate on a 5-foot canvas.
Creating art on a 5-foot canvas while an audience watches is a high-pressure environment, but that is where the energy comes from. My process for these large-scale pieces usually begins with a concept—often historical scenes or cultural heritage themes—that I adapt for a live format.
The Process
For these events, I use heavy-body acrylics. They dry fast, which is crucial when you have only a few hours to complete a complex scene from start to finish. I bring my own heavy-duty wooden studio easel and lighting clip-ons, as standard venue lighting is rarely enough for detailed painting.
Practical Logistics
- Setup: I require a dedicated area with enough clearance for me to move freely around the easel.
- Timeline: These pieces are designed for 4 to 6-hour events. This allows for a steady progression that keeps the audience engaged.
- Subject Matter: Whether it is a historical scene, a tribute to specific cultural art like Vinayak Karmarkar’s sculptures, or a landscape, the subject needs to be decided in advance so I can prepare the composition.
Everything I paint is original, signed, and yours to keep at the end of the night. Because of the size (36x60 inches), I handle the logistics of moving the canvas to and from your venue in Mumbai. If you have a specific theme or a historical narrative you want to see represented, let's discuss it before the event day so I can plan the strokes.
