Sanket Thorat

I'm an artist and a JJ School of Art graduate, offering painting services, portraits, and live demonstrations. My process is spontaneous, and my work often fuses European antique styles with Indian subjects.

This is my 7x5 feet oil painting, "Knitting her thoughts." I combined a European antique sculpture with a contemporary Indian girl.

An oil on canvas portrait titled "प्रिय वडील" (Beloved Father). For me, a portrait is more than a likeness; it's about capturing the subject's spirit and presence, creating a timeless piece for a family to cherish.

A watercolour painting capturing the serene atmosphere of a temple courtyard in Kochi. I love using watercolours for landscapes to play with light and capture the unique vibe of a place.

"Amma," a 60"x48" oil on canvas. This full-figure portrait study, done at the Sir J.J. School of Art, shows my focus on capturing the strength and personality of the model using bold brushwork.

A large acrylic painting recreating Padma Shree Vinayak Karmarkar's sculpture of Aai Bhavani presenting a sword to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. This piece connects my art to our rich Maharashtrian history and heritage.

This acrylic portrait, titled "कोळी," was painted from a live model. It's an example of my bolder, more direct approach, focusing on expression and character through strong colours and brushstrokes.

My award-winning painting, "Contrast of life." This piece received the 'Tilak Vidyapith Award' and explores deeper themes through the juxtaposition of the human form and classical sculpture.

A rapid portrait sketch in acrylics. This shows my spontaneous and intuitive side, where I focus on capturing the essence of a person with quick, confident brushwork.

The finished piece from the Thane Art Festival. This is a 60x36 inch acrylic on canvas, created live over the course of the event. I enjoy working on a large scale to capture the grandeur of historical and cultural themes.

This was a proud moment, standing with my completed painting for the Indian Navy Day event at INS Hamla. The subject was the history of the 1971 war, and it was an honor to create a piece that pays tribute to our naval heroes.

It was a privilege to present my work to the Governor of Maharashtra during the 'Glory of Heritage' landscape painting workshop at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai. This event, in association with my alma mater Sir J. J. School of Art, was a memorable experience.

A finished watercolor landscape of Hampi, demonstrated live at the Kalakari Festival in Satara. Working with watercolors requires a quick and confident hand, especially in a live setting, to capture the light and atmosphere.

Beyond landscapes, I also create portraits. This is a watercolor portrait done from a live sitting, focusing on capturing the subject's likeness and character through fluid brushstrokes.

This shows the foundation of all my work. An academic life drawing from my time at Sir J. J. School of Art, where I learned the fundamentals of anatomy and form. This rigorous training is what I bring to every painting I create.

My Story

Hi, Sanket here. I did my graduation and post-graduation in portraiture at Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai. "Wahi sab kuch seekha." My English-speaking friends, our "broken angrezi", and our growing group, that's how I grew. Outside college, I wander. Hampi, Lepakshi, old stones and Vijayanagara history end up in my work. MFA done, but sketching and painting won't stop. "Yeh safar chalta rahega."

My Work

Painting & Portrait Services - I paint portraits, landscapes and realistic work, and take custom portrait commissions. Oil, acrylic, watercolor, sab chalta hai.

Live Painting Demonstration - I do live painting demonstration at events, festivals. Big canvas or tiny sketchbook, I’m up for it.

European Antique Fusion - Mixing European antique forms with Indian models, my art is a blend. I let the work speak.

Spontaneous Watercolor Study - Sometimes I skip pre-sketches and paint straight, keeping things fresh and intuitive.

Personal & Commercial Practice - Commercial kaam chalu hai (commercial work is on), but my personal practice never stops.

Conceptual Commissions - I start with drawings and sketches, then the final painting. Price depends on the reference and size.
