Did you know a child can learn the alphabet of tabla in just a few minutes? This graphic shows the ten basic bols, or syllables, that form the foundation of all tabla playing. My teaching method focuses on imparting this traditional art without compromising on quality or purity.
This poster was for an introductory Facebook Live session for aspiring tabla learners. In these sessions, I introduce the origin of the tabla, the different Gharanas or schools, and the nuances of solo and accompaniment techniques.
Children are our future, and it is our duty to nurture their talents. This Children's Day greeting features some of my young students, who are the heart of our Sangeetika Music Society and the next generation of artists.
We celebrate all the daughters of our Sangeetika Music Society. It is a joy to see students like my granddaughter Sayesha embrace this art form with such passion and dedication.
About Join Our Global Classroom
Learning an instrument online can feel disconnected, but my approach focuses on direct, live feedback. In our sessions, I monitor your 'Nikash' (sound production) and hand posture just as closely as I would in a physical classroom, ensuring you build the correct Delhi Gharana technique from your very first lesson.
My teaching is rooted in the legacy of my Guru, Ustad Chhamma Khan. I do not believe in shortcuts; I believe in 'Sadhana' (practice). When you join my online tabla classes, you are not just learning to tap on a drum. You are entering a disciplined environment where we break down the basics of rhythm and sound.
My curriculum is structured to support students at every stage. For beginners, we start with the 'bols' (alphabet of tabla). I will guide you through the fundamental strokes—Ta, Na, Ghe, Tirkit—ensuring your spine and shoulders are aligned for long-term comfort. As you progress, we explore the math of taals, covering Kayeda, Palta, Rela, and Gat.
For those aiming for formal recognition, I offer courses aligned with the Prayag Sangeet Samiti syllabus. My goal is to help you understand the 'lay' (rhythm) of your own life. Whether you want to master solo performance techniques or learn to accompany vocalists and dancers, I provide the roadmap.
I conduct live video sessions where we review your progress through feedback on your practice videos. You have access to digital charts and handwritten compositions, so you are never left guessing. Age is not a barrier; I have taught children in Dhaka and professionals in Berlin. If you are serious about learning this art, I am here to guide you.
