Student Showcase: The Next Generation of Tabla Players
From young prodigies to dedicated international students, witness the authentic Delhi Gharana style in practice.
Shri Divyanshu Pant is a frontline disciple who trained with me in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. Here he presents compositions in Teentaal, demonstrating the skills he developed for numerous cultural programs and concerts organized by the High Commission of India.
Here is my youngest disciple, Sayesha, performing a "Rela" in Teentaal. Her performance shows the incredible potential of young learners and the effectiveness of our traditional teaching methods, even for complex and fast-paced compositions.
A "Kayeda" is a fundamental theme-and-variation composition in tabla. In this video, baby artist Sayesha practices a Kayeda in Teentaal, building the foundation of improvisation and rhythmic development that is central to solo tabla performance.
This is another clip of Sayesha presenting thrilling "Tukras" in Teentaal. A tukra is a short, fixed composition, and mastering it at a young age shows a strong grasp of rhythm and structure.
Sangeetika Music Society is committed to nurturing young talent from an early stage. This is an announcement for a special solo recital by my youngest disciple, Sayesha, presented live on the eve of Christmas.
About Student Showcase: The Next Generation
Seeing my students perform—like little Sayesha mastering a Rela or Divyanshu playing in Tanzania—is the true measure of our lineage. When you learn here, you do not just mimic me; you build your own 'Lay' through the traditional Guru-Shishya process. If you are serious about learning the authentic Delhi Gharana style, we start by assessing your natural rhythm before we ever touch a new composition.
This showcase represents the dedication of our Sangeetika community. Whether you see young children executing complex Kayedas or adult students performing at cultural programs abroad, you are witnessing the core of the Delhi Gharana style. Our teaching does not rely on generic videos that leave you guessing.
The Guru-Shishya tradition requires direct observation. That is why we focus on Kinar and Syahi sound production—the heartbeat of our school. Students learn the mathematics of taals like Teentaal or Rudrataal, but more importantly, they learn the discipline of Sadhana.
We accept students from anywhere in the world because music knows no borders. My goal is to pass on the purity of Ustad Chhamma Khan’s techniques to the next generation, ensuring that every student, regardless of age, learns to express their own voice through the tabla.
