Whether you are taking your first steps or looking to refine your Farukhabad Gharana techniques, I am here to help you find your rhythm.

A happy moment with my wonderful students from a workshop in Japan. It is beautiful to see the love for tabla cross cultural and geographical boundaries. I offer online classes for students anywhere in the world.

Glimpses from my tabla workshop, where students of all ages and backgrounds came together to learn. We worked on basic hand techniques, rhythmic cycles, and simple compositions.

With the prodigious young flute player Anirban Roy before a performance. It is inspiring to see such dedication at a young age, and I welcome students of all ages to begin their musical journey with me.

Speaking to students at the Mahadevi Birla World Academy after judging an inter-school music fest. It's important to encourage the next generation of musicians and give them a platform to showcase their talents.

Being felicitated at the Mahadevi Birla World Academy. Events like these are a great opportunity to connect with young music enthusiasts and share my experiences as a professional musician.

At the judge's table during an inter-school fest. Listening to these young performers, I see the bright future of Indian music. My classes are open to anyone with a passion to learn.

About Sharing the Knowledge: Workshops & Classes

My teaching begins with the foundation—the Nikas, or how your hands meet the drum. I focus heavily on correct finger placement and posture because getting these basics right is what makes a composition sound clean and resonant, not just loud.

Learning the tabla is a journey, and I structure my classes to support you at every stage. We dive deep into the Farukhabad Gharana traditions passed down by my Guruji, Pandit Subhankar Banerjee ji.

Whether you join my 1-on-1 mentorship or the global online group course, we cover:

  • Foundational Technique: For beginners, we start with hand placement, posture, and the clear articulation of each bol (stroke).
  • Gharana Compositions: We explore the traditional pieces of the Farukhabad lineage, including works by Ustad Allah Rakha Khan Sahab.
  • Rhythmic Cycles: You will learn to navigate Teentaal and Jhaptaal with confidence.

I believe there is no age limit for learning. If you have the passion, we can work together. For my online students, I provide access to class recordings and audio notations so you have everything you need for your daily riyaz (practice). If you are in Kolkata, I am happy to meet for in-person group sessions at the Taalsen Music Academy, where we focus on collective rhythm and shared learning.

I believe music is a sadhana, a spiritual practice. Watching a student nail a rhythm for the first time is truly the highlight of my day, whether we are connecting over Zoom or in a studio in Kolkata.
