Gentle Yoga for Leg, Foot, and Sciatica Pain Relief
After my delivery, constant foot pain and sciatica made standing tough. These simple, 15-minute movements are the exact ones that helped me regain my strength and comfort.
Sciatica pain can be debilitating. In this video, I demonstrate a few gentle yoga kriyas that you can do while seated. These stretches are designed to relieve pressure on the sciatic nerve and reduce lower back pain.
About Routines for Leg, Foot & Sciatica Pain
If you are dealing with sharp, shooting pain in your legs or the constant ache of stiff calves, don't rush into high-intensity workouts. I specifically use a simple scarf or dupatta for these stretches to gently extend the leg and target the sciatic nerve without straining your lower back. This slow, controlled release is how I manage my own flare-ups, and it is the safest way to start moving again without aggravating the nerve.
Understanding Sciatica and Leg Pain
Sciatica isn't just about 'getting old' or being tired. It often starts as a nagging dull ache in the lower back that travels down the leg, making daily tasks like standing in the kitchen or sitting at a desk unbearable. When I was dealing with my postpartum recovery, I found that traditional yoga classes were too intense and actually made my inflammation worse.
Why This Routine Works
My approach focuses on what I call 'gentle extension.' Instead of forcing your body into complex asanas, we use simple props—like a dupatta or a household scarf—to help you perform controlled stretches while sitting or lying down. This removes the pressure of body weight and gravity from your spine, allowing the sciatic nerve to release tension gradually.
What You Will Find in These Sessions:
- Targeted Kriyas: Movements specifically designed to loosen the calf muscles and relieve pressure on the sciatic nerve.
- Safe Pacing: We avoid jerky movements. Everything is slow, controlled, and breath-led.
- Accessibility: You don't need a fancy gym or expensive equipment. If you have a chair and a scarf, you have everything you need.
How to Start
Consistency beats intensity every single time. My 15-minute routines are designed to fit into a busy day, whether you are a new mom managing a baby or someone dealing with stiffness from long hours at a corporate job. If your pain is chronic, I also offer 1-on-1 sessions where I can watch your form in real-time to make sure you are not overstretching or causing further irritation.
