About Art Basics & Creative Tips
Many beginners find that their drawings lack depth or their colors look mismatched, but the fix is usually simpler than you think. By focusing on fundamental rules like proper pencil pressure for shading or using the color wheel to find complementary shades, you can instantly see an improvement in your work without needing years of practice.
When you start painting or sketching, it is easy to get overwhelmed by the sheer number of techniques available. I always tell my students at my studios in Kadubeesanahalli and RR Nagar that you do not need to be a natural-born artist to create beautiful work. You just need to understand the building blocks. In my foundational sessions, we demystify color theory. We look at how colors interact, why using a blue with orange can make an image pop, and how to mix paints without creating mud. It is not just about theory; we apply it immediately to canvas, paper, or fabric.
For drawing, we strip everything back to the basics: how you hold the pencil and how you apply pressure to create light and shadow. This is exactly what gives your sketches dimension. Whether you join me for a live online Zoom session or visit the studio, my goal is to give you the skills to keep creating long after the class ends. Once you master these basics, you can move on to specific courses like my fabric painting masterclasses or clay mural workshops. But always remember, 'Channagi kaanista idiyalla ee thara madidre?' (Doesn't it look good if you do it this way?)—if you follow these fundamental steps, your work will always look its best.
