About Sketching & Drawing Fundamentals
I often tell my students that sketching is just a conversation between your eyes and your hand. In my sessions, we focus on breaking down complex objects into simple shapes so you do not feel overwhelmed, whether you are trying to capture the intricate veins of a betel leaf or shading a still life composition.
Sketching is the foundation of every visual art form. At RangSangam, we strip away the intimidating technical jargon to focus on the essentials: line, shape, shading, and composition. Whether you are using a standard graphite pencil, charcoal, or color pencils, I teach you how to observe your subject closely and translate what you see onto the paper.
My approach is entirely step-by-step. If you have ever felt that your drawings look flat, we work on perspective and light to create depth and realism, much like the student work you see in the gallery. We cover:
- Graphite & Charcoal: Learning the range of marks and how to blend for dramatic contrast.
- Observational Drawing: Training your eye to see shapes, light sources, and shadows in everyday objects.
- Texture Rendering: Understanding how to draw surfaces like fabric, glass, or nature-inspired subjects.
- Foundation Skills: Understanding composition and proportion so you can sketch with confidence.
Classes are held in my Chandapura studio in a small group setting, which allows me to give every student personalized attention. If you are outside Bengaluru, my online sessions offer the same interactive guidance, ensuring you get the full benefit of my teaching from your own home. You do not need to be an expert to start; you just need to be willing to pick up a pencil.
