Start your artistic journey with the fundamentals of drawing. Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your technique, we focus on light, shadow, and observation to bring your sketches to life.

This video shows the process of sketching a hornbill, from the initial outline to adding texture and shading. It’s a great way to practice drawing animals and capturing details like feathers.

A classic still life study of chess pieces done with pencil. This exercise is perfect for practicing shading on curved and geometric surfaces to create a realistic 3D effect.

Experimenting with graphite to create an atmospheric piece. This sketch of a Baul singer uses soft shading and strong highlights to convey movement and emotion.

Here I am, working on a detailed graphite pencil drawing on an easel. In my classes, I guide students through the process of creating larger, more complex compositions.

A detailed pencil sketch of a small bird. We work on capturing fine details like feathers and expression, which is a great exercise in observational drawing.

A quick look at my process for creating texture with graphite powder and a brush. This is a fun technique we explore in class for creating soft, blended backgrounds and shadows.

A collection of quick sketches done by my students. These exercises in drawing landscapes, animals, and objects help build confidence and improve line work.

More amazing pencil drawings from my students. It's wonderful to see them apply shading and composition techniques to different subjects like buildings, plants, and boats.

A series of studies exploring the same subject: a cabin in the woods. This shows how students can experiment with composition and mood using simple pencil and charcoal techniques.

These are examples of negative space drawing, a technique where you draw the background to reveal the object. It's a fantastic exercise for learning to see shapes and spaces differently.

About Pencil & Shading Skills

In our Master Stroke sessions, we trade rigid classrooms for a relaxed, floor-seating environment where you can actually get comfortable while you draw. You don’t need any prior experience to start—just bring your curiosity. We’ll guide you through light and shadow, helping you turn simple pencil strokes into 3D forms that you will be genuinely proud of.

Whether you are picking up a pencil for the first time or looking to refine your shading technique, our classes focus on practical skill-building in a stress-free space. We dive deep into the fundamentals: understanding light sources, mastering grayscale values, and learning how to render textures like feathers or smooth surfaces.

We work with a Bring Your Own Material (BYOM) model. I will provide the full list of recommended pencils and paper types to get you started on the right foot without overspending.

Our studio in BTM Layout is set up for comfort, not formality. Because we keep our weekend hobby batches small—capped at 4 to 8 students—you get real-time feedback on your lines and shading intensity. We do not just focus on the outcome; we focus on the process of seeing, observing, and then capturing that on paper.

For those who want to take it a step further, our advanced batch dives into complex anatomy and architectural perspective. If you are looking for a creative outlet to de-stress on the weekend, this is exactly the place to do it.
