Fabric Painting Masterclass: Learn Art on Fabric
Turn plain fabrics into personal statement pieces. I guide you step-by-step through shading, color blending, and brush control to make your hand-painted creations look professional and stay soft.
Watch me demonstrate my one-stroke fabric painting technique for creating a delicate, shaded flower. In my masterclass, I teach you how to control your brush and blend colors directly on the fabric to achieve this beautiful, seamless effect without making the cloth stiff.
This video shows the process of painting a vibrant hibiscus flower on fabric. I focus on wet-on-wet blending with yellow and red acrylics and then add fine details like the stamen with a thin brush to create a realistic look.
Here is a look at the fundamental brush strokes and color merging techniques I teach. Mastering these basics is the first step to creating any beautiful fabric painting, from simple flowers to complex designs.
This is a live demo from one of my online T-shirt painting workshops. I guide students on how to apply base colors, like these sunflower petals, and offer tips for beginners on mixing enough paint to maintain color consistency.
A finished hand-painted T-shirt featuring a traditional twin peacock motif in gold. This design combines a tie-dye effect on the fabric with precise line work, a technique you can learn in my classes.
A close-up of the golden peacock motif, showing the fine details and clean lines achieved with fabric paint. I teach how to use the brush to get this level of precision on different types of cloth.
This T-shirt is decorated with a classic paisley or 'kairi' design, hand-painted in gold along the side and on the shoulder. This is a great example of how to use traditional motifs for modern apparel.
A detailed view of the paisley fabric painting. Notice the intricate curves and patterns within the motif, all created using careful brush control, which is a key focus in my workshops.
In this one-on-one online session, I am teaching a student how to outline and shade flower petals on fabric. I explain in Kannada how adding a darker outline, "Channagi kaanista idiyalla ee thara madidre?", makes the design pop.
This clip from a fabric painting workshop shows how I teach flat color filling. I explain the importance of clean edges and using the right brush, like a 000 size, for creating sharp outlines on your design.
About Fabric Painting Masterclass
When you paint on fabric, the biggest mistake is over-layering, which makes the cloth stiff and uncomfortable to wear. In my masterclass, I show you how to blend colors in one or two light applications, keeping the fabric soft and wearable. Whether you are working on a silk saree or a cotton T-shirt, controlling the paint consistency and your brush pressure is the secret to getting a result that looks like a professional print, not a heavy patch.
Fabric painting is about understanding how light and shadow interact with your design. Many people try to paint by filling in flat colors, but that often looks stiff. I teach a 'wet-on-wet' blending technique that brings depth to your motifs, making them look real. We start with the basics of brush holding and color mixing, so you do not need any prior experience. I explain exactly which brushes to use, like the 000 size for fine outlines, and why letting sections dry before adding the final details is crucial for clean edges.
We cover a variety of surfaces, from heavy cottons for T-shirts to delicate fabrics like organza and silk. My classes are available both online via Zoom and offline at my Kadubeesanahalli and RR Nagar studios in Bangalore. Because I keep my batches small, I can watch you paint in real-time, correcting your grip or paint consistency just as I would in a one-on-one session. Whether you want to customize your own wardrobe or learn a skill to create thoughtful, handmade gifts, this course gives you the technique to make it happen.
