The Guru’s Legacy: Authentic Bharatanatyam Lineage
Bharatanatyam is more than steps to me; it is a sacred lifeline passed down from my mother and guru, Smt. Jamuna Krishnan. I invite you to join our tradition.
A precious moment with my Amma, my Guru. Her vision and artistry are my guiding light. It is her legacy of blending North Indian poetry with Bharatanatyam that I am so proud to continue.
A tribute to my Amma's genius. She was a giant who composed music, researched poetry, and choreographed dance, creating holistic gems. It is my duty to ensure her name is honored whenever her work is performed.
A memory of dancing with the legendary CVC Sir, a scholar and a warm human being who was a great admirer of my Amma's work. These interactions with the masters have shaped me as an artist and a teacher.
Three generations of our family's love for the arts. This picture with my Amma and my sister-in-law is a reminder of the deep family bonds that have always supported our artistic pursuits. Happy memories.
What I would not give to wrap my arms around my Amma one more time. Her presence is deeply missed, but her spirit lives on in every beat and every note danced in my studio.
I was deeply humbled to be featured by Ashirvachan as "Bharatanatyam's Leading Light." My 35-year journey has been one of devotion, and I am grateful for the recognition of my dedication to this classical art form.
About The Guru's Legacy: A Sacred Lineage
When you step into my studio, you are not just learning choreography. You are receiving direct training in the Vazhuvoor style, paired with the rare, holistic compositions of my mother, Smt. Jamuna Krishnan. These pieces, which blend North Indian Bhakti poetry with classical dance, are a unique part of our lineage that I am deeply committed to sharing with the next generation.
My teaching is built on the Guru-parampara system, a bond that goes far beyond a typical student-teacher relationship. In our classes, we focus heavily on abhinaya, or the art of expression. It is not enough to execute the movements perfectly; you must understand why Meera sings, why she prays, and the emotional backstory behind every mudra.
Why Our Training Is Different
- Rare Compositions: I pass down unique works that you will not find elsewhere—pieces my Amma meticulously researched, composed, and choreographed.
- Technical Rigor: Classes are held on specialized sprung wooden flooring to protect your joints, ensuring your training remains sustainable for the long term.
- Holistic Approach: Whether you are an adult beginner or an advanced performer, we cover theory, rhythmic structures (Layam), and stagecraft so you gain a complete understanding of the art form.
We are a small, tight-knit parivaar in Dwarka. I encourage all my students to perform, as the stage is the ultimate teacher. If you are curious, have a bit of courage, and a love for classical art, you will fit right in. We focus on the history and philosophy behind the steps so that when you dance, you do so with your entire heart.
