For me, the stage is where the magic truly unfolds. Whether it is a young student's first step under the lights or a senior disciple performing a complex piece, watching my Kalangan family find their voice is my greatest joy.

This is where the magic is made. Behind every graceful performance are hours of strenuous stage rehearsals, corrections, and run-throughs. I guide my students through every step, ensuring they are ready to shine.

Two days to go! The excitement builds as my students, a mix of college-goers and young dancers, rehearse together. You can see the dedication and synchronization that our guru-parampara training instills.

Even my youngest students get to experience the thrill of preparing for a big show. Here they are, rehearsing in a circle, learning not just the steps but also how to dance together as a group.

Final rehearsals in the studio before a performance at the prestigious Kamani Auditorium. We work on perfecting formations and ensuring every dancer's movements are sharp and coordinated.

The Kalangan clan! My wonderful senior disciples, radiant and proud after a successful performance. It is a joy to see them grow into such confident and poised artists on stage.

A moment of shared pride with my students backstage. We are a team, a family, and their success is my success. These are the bonds that make our journey in dance so special.

Our custom Kalangan jackets, a symbol of our unity and identity as a dance family. This is a fun tradition we have, celebrating our togetherness after pouring our hearts out on stage.

The official invitation to our Kalangan Annual Day. This is a special evening where disciples of my Guru, Late Smt. Jamuna Krishnan, and my own students come together to present an evening of Bharatanatyam.

About From Studio to Stage: Our Student Showcase

You won't find us just performing; we are preparing. Our rehearsals happen in the studio weeks before the final event, where we drill formations and work on stage presence. If you join us, know that I push for this stage experience early because I want you to feel the confidence that comes from owning the spotlight, not just mastering the steps.

The journey from our studio floors in Dwarka to the bright lights of venues like Kamani Auditorium is where the real learning happens. It is not just about the dance; it is about the transition from practicing in front of a mirror to connecting with an audience.

The Kalangan Approach

We treat every showcase as an offering. My students learn the 'how' and 'why' of their movements, often spending months on a single piece of choreography passed down from my mother, Guru Smt. Jamuna Krishnan.

What Rehearsals Look Like

  • Precision: We focus on synchronization. Whether it is a solo or a group item, we practice until the footwork sounds like one.
  • Grace: We spend as much time on abhinaya (expression) as we do on rhythm. A dancer who looks terrified is not connecting, and I ensure my students are comfortable and confident.
  • Support: We are a parivaar. You will see seniors helping juniors, and everyone cheering for each other.

Our Annual Day is the highlight of our calendar. It is a moment of shared pride where disciples, both young and adult, come together to present their hard work. If you are looking for a place where you will be encouraged to perform and grow, not just attend a class, you will find a home with us.

I am Ragini, and at Kalangan, we live for these moments of performance. I don't just teach dance; I guide a family where my mother’s legacy lives through every student who takes the stage. It is my honour to help you find your rhythm and the courage to share it.
