About Bharatanatyam Choreography & Workshops
For me, Bharatanatyam is not just a stage thing - it’s something I carry from my Amma, Smt. Jamuna Krishnan, right in my bones. Every time I teach or choreograph, I bring her legacy and my own quirks into the mix. This isn’t just dance steps. It’s memories, stories, and a whole lot of heart.
Your Dance, Your Way
If you’re prepping for your first stage show or want to try something new with your group, I’ll help you shape a performance that actually feels like yours. I love mixing tradition with personal stories - not just copying what’s always been done. Some of my favourite work has been creating full productions like "Moham - Tales of love and longing," and also smaller, classic pieces from Pushpanjali to devotional items.
Amma’s Originals
A big piece of what I teach comes from my Amma’s rare compositions. She took poetry from North Indian bhakti poets (think Surdas, Vidyapati) and made them Bharatanatyam treasures. Learning these isn’t just about the steps - it’s about holding onto something truly special. It’s like being handed a piece of family history.
Dive Deep: Workshops & Lec-Dems
I’m crazy about abhinaya (expression). My Abhinaya Bharatanatyam workshops go deep into how to actually live the story on stage. I also run lec-dems for schools and colleges, where we break down the dance and chat about what’s behind it, not just what’s in front.
We’ll work together in my New Delhi studio, where the Guru-Shishya bond is real. This journey is as much about trust and love for the art as it is about the dance itself.

My Story
Family is everything for us at Kalangan. Amma and Appa, especially my mother Smt. Jamuna Krishnan, shaped our world - her sarees and her dance creations are still with me. My husband and two boys, Aditya and Anant, keep the house full of cricket, music, and laughter. Traditions like Vishu’s kai-neetam and Navratri’s golu bommais run deep here. All this love and history – it’s what you’ll feel in our dance.
My Work
Bharatanatyam Classes & Solo Performances - We teach all levels, offer private choreography, and perform solo for events.
Kalangan - Our Dance Family - We celebrate festivals, nurture the guru-shishya bond, and welcome everyone into our clan.
Expressive Abhinaya Training - Dance is storytelling. We focus on expressive abhinaya training so students truly connect.
Legacy Bharatanatyam Compositions - Passing on my mother’s unique Bharatanatyam pieces, especially North Indian bhakti choreography.
