Every performance leaves a mark. This collection is a glimpse into the intimate, soulful spaces where I have shared my love for Kathak, from quiet morning baithaks to life-changing moments.

It was a pleasure to be back at Sonave Farms for 'Baithak By The Bakul', an event hosted by Rujuta Diwekar. I was delighted to see this Warli art depicting my performance from the previous year.

Performing under a 100-year-old Bakul tree at Sonave Farms felt like a true 'Kathakaar' experience. The serene, natural setting was absolutely magical.

A group photo with the wonderful team at Sonave Farms after my performance. The warmth and hospitality, not to mention the delicious food, made it a day to remember.

With my dear friend and host Rujuta Diwekar at her beautiful Sonave Farms. It is always a pleasure to perform for people who have a deep appreciation for art and culture.

The audience at 'Baithak By The Bakul'. Performing for an intimate gathering of adults and children in such a beautiful, informal setting is a unique and rewarding experience.

A clip from my performance at Sonave Farms. The sound of my ghungroos, the live tabla, and the rustling of leaves created a perfect symphony.

Remembering the legendary Saroj Khan ji. It was an absolute honor to receive her blessings at our Rivaayat festival in 2018. A moment I will cherish forever.

About Moments & Memories

Whether I am performing on a grand stage or in an intimate garden baithak, my priority is the connection. If you are looking for a performance for a private home event or a corporate gathering, please note that I always perform with my team of musicians. That live dialogue, the sawal-jawab between my footwork and the tabla, is what makes the dance truly alive.

Performing is rarely just about the choreography for me. It is about the environment and the energy exchange. When I perform at places like Sonave Farms under the old Bakul tree, the setting dictates the mood. The acoustics of the floor, the rustle of leaves, and the proximity to the audience all shape how I interpret a piece of music.

Creating a Baithak Experience

An intimate baithak is different from a proscenium stage show. It requires a level of vulnerability and engagement where I can see the audience's reactions in real-time. This is where I often experiment with new abhinaya, interpreting ghazals or thumris based on the mood of the gathering. If you are planning a private event, we can curate a setlist that fits the vibe—be it spiritual, celebratory, or purely artistic.

Technical Realities

While I love unique venues, Kathak requires specific technical conditions. For any performance, I need a wooden floor—concrete or stone damages the ghungroos and makes it impossible to bring out the nuances of the footwork. Furthermore, I do not perform on recorded tracks for these intimate setups. The presence of live musicians is non-negotiable for me, as improvisation is the heart of Kathak. We need the space to breathe, coordinate, and react to one another, which is what turns a standard dance show into a memorable experience for everyone involved.

Hi, I am Pooja. For me, dance is a conversation, not just a show. Whether I am performing at a large corporate event or a quiet garden baithak, I look for that spark of connection with the audience.
