Bhavageethe is more than music; it is a conversation between poetry and melody. Join me for an intimate evening of stories, songs, and the timeless words of our poets, brought to life in their purest form.

A small piece of a Bhavageethe I love, with timeless poetry by Kuvempu and composition by Mysore Ananthaswamy. In these moments, I sing simply for the love of the song.

Singing the much-requested song 'Ilidu Baa', a beautiful poem by Rashtrakavi Kuvempu set to an evergreen tune by Mysore Ananthaswamy.

A rendition of B.M. Srikanthaiah’s iconic poem 'Navodayada Harikara', a translation of 'Lead Kindly Light', beautifully composed by Mysore Ananthaswamy.

Singing one of Mysore Ananthaswamy’s most iconic tunes, a poem by Dr. N.S. Lakshminarayana Bhatta set in Misra Chandrakauns raga.

Singing 'Mattade Besara', a classic Bhavageethe from the very first Kannada album of its kind, with lyrics by Nissar Ahmed and composition by Mysore Ananthaswamy.

An evening for Bhavageethe, singing some of my favourite lines from a poem by K.S. Nissar Ahmed, set to music by Mysore Ananthaswamy.

Singing a selection from G.P. Rajaratnam’s 'Ratnan Padagalu', composed by Mysore Ananthaswamy. Each song in this collection is a gem, tracing a character's journey through life.

In memory of my guru, Raju Ananthaswamy, on his birth anniversary. This poem by Shishunala Sharif is one of his simpler, yet deeply moving, compositions.

A composition by my guru Raju Ananthaswamy, using chromatic notes as a motif to set a poem by B.R. Lakshman Rao.

A Bhavageethe with lyrics by Sumathindra Nadig and music by Raju Ananthaswamy, reminding us that time passed will not return.

About Intimate Bhavageethe & Poetry

When I perform these poems, I see them as a dialogue rather than just a concert. Whether it is a classic composition by Mysore Ananthaswamy or a rare piece where every line shifts through a different raga, I share the context and the history behind the lyrics. It is effectively sitting together, reading and understanding poetry through music.

For me, these intimate sessions are where the essence of Sugama Sangeetha truly resides. In my 'Home Kacheri' performances, the goal is to strip away the grand stage setup and focus entirely on the connection between the lyric, the melody, and the listener.

I curate these sessions by selecting works from poets who have defined our cultural landscape—Kuvempu, Nissar Ahmed, G.P. Rajaratnam, and Chandrashekar Patil. Many of these renditions are based on the compositions of my gurus, Raju Ananthaswamy and the legendary C. Ashwath.

What to expect from a session:

  • Poetic Context: I do not just sing the songs; I narrate the story behind the poet, the emotion of the verse, and why these lines remain relevant today.
  • Interactive Format: These are baithak (seated) style performances. We keep it conversational, allowing for questions and a natural flow between songs.
  • Technical Variety: I often explore the technical beauty of these compositions, such as how a poem by B.R. Lakshman Rao might use chromatic notes or how different ragas are woven into a single narrative.

Whether you are hosting a small gathering or a private cultural circle, my aim is to bring an authentic, soulful experience that feels both rooted in tradition and fresh in its presentation. If you appreciate the nuances of Bhavageethe and want an evening that celebrates Kannada literature, let us create something meaningful together.
