My journey in the arts has always been about the people I work with and the stories we tell together. Receiving the 'Vachana Sahityashri' award from the Basava Vedike was a profound moment, especially sharing that space with senior scholars. It reaffirmed my commitment to keeping our traditional poetry alive. Similarly, the 'Excellence in Music' award at the Karnataka Women Achievers' Awards (KWAA) was a beautiful celebration of the diverse contributions women are making in the arts today.
Art knows no borders, and I am grateful for the global recognition that has come my way. Having our album 'Songs For Broken Ships' listed for the German Record Critics’ Award and winning the Beyond Music 2024 selection—with our song 'SiMchezo' moving toward Grammy category consideration—has been an incredible experience. These moments are shared victories with the brilliant musicians, sound engineers, and creative collaborators who join me on stage.
Whether it is a theatre production in Bengaluru or a festival stage, my goal remains the same: to create something honest. I believe in the power of music to bridge gaps, whether it is blending Kannada vocals with electronic cello or bringing Vachanas to a new generation. Each award is a gentle nudge to continue this path of exploration, conversation, and storytelling.
