Master the ancient Okinawan art of weapons handling. We teach authentic Bo, Sai, and Nunchaku techniques, bringing the same syllabus from Japan directly to our Bangalore dojo.

A portrait of me holding a pair of sai, a traditional Okinawan weapon. Kobudo, or weapons training, is an integral part of our advanced curriculum, teaching focus and coordination.

Students practicing with the 'Bo' staff during their Nidan (2nd Degree Black Belt) examination. Kobudo requires a different kind of discipline and spatial awareness, and is a key part of our traditional training.

Students practicing with nunchaku at our Honbu Dojo. This dynamic weapon requires great skill and control, which our students develop through dedicated practice.

A class of students practicing with the Bo staff. The synchronized movements of their weapons kata demonstrate the same discipline and precision as their empty hand forms.

Students of different belt levels practicing with Bo staffs. We introduce Kobudo training as students advance, providing a deeper understanding of Okinawan martial arts.

About Kobudo: The Art of Okinawan Weapons

Unlike standard fitness classes, our Kobudo training is integrated into the advanced curriculum after you have mastered basic karate foundations. You will learn using professional-grade Bo staffs and Nunchaku, following the exact same syllabus our instructors bring back from our annual training trips to Okinawa, Japan.

Beyond Empty Hands

Kobudo is the traditional Okinawan martial way that complements empty-hand karate. It is not just about swinging weapons; it is about extending your discipline, focus, and spatial awareness beyond your own body. At our Honbu Dojo in Panduranga Nagar, we ensure you learn the traditional methods, not just performance choreography.

Weapons We Teach

Our curriculum is rigorous and structured, focusing on weapons that have historical significance in Okinawan martial arts:

  • Bo (Staff): The foundation of our weapons training. It teaches balance, distance, and powerful strikes.
  • Sai: A specialized weapon that demands precision and sharp reflexes.
  • Nunchaku: Requires high levels of coordination and control.
  • Tonfa: Develops wrist strength and defensive capability.

The Training Environment

We do not believe in shortcuts. Whether you are at our Honbu Dojo in Bangalore or any of our affiliated branches, you train on proper flooring with safe equipment. Our instructors are all certified black belts who adhere to the syllabus I personally bring back from our visits to Japan.

Progression

Kobudo is typically introduced as students advance in their karate journey. It is a commitment to depth. If you are already training in karate, this is the logical step to deepen your understanding of martial history and application. We do not just teach you how to hold a weapon, we teach you the mindset behind it.

I started the OSK Federation with just 14 students back in 1992, driven by a simple belief in traditional Karate-do. Today, my instructors and I keep that same spirit alive by traveling to Okinawa every year to bring the real, undiluted syllabus back to you.
