Authentic Okinawan Kobudo Lineage
I teach the Jinbukan Kobudo system exactly as it has been passed down through our Seibukan lineage in Okinawa.
Standing with Grand Master Zenpo Shimabukuro in Okinawa. This direct connection to the source of Shorin-ryu Seibukan is the foundation of my teaching and guarantees the authenticity of what you will learn.
Grand Master Zenpo Shimabukuro demonstrates a technique with the precision and power that comes from a lifetime of dedicated practice. This is the standard of excellence we pursue in our training.
Grand Master Zenpo Shimabukuro, 10th Dan Hanshi, instructing students. His ability to explain complex principles is a hallmark of a true master, and his teachings form the curriculum of my dojo.
A portrait of Grand Master Shimabukuro, a respected leader and ambassador for traditional Okinawan Karate worldwide. It is an honor to train and teach under his guidance and leadership.
This is the respected Sensei Kanei Katsuyoshi, one of the greatest Kobudo teachers in history. We honor the masters who came before us by preserving the kata and principles they passed down through the Jinbukan system.
About Our Lineage: The Heart of Okinawan Kobudo
When you train in our lineage, you are not learning a watered-down syllabus. The techniques I pass on, from Bo staff handling to Tonfa drills, are the same ones taught at the Shorin-ryu Seibukan dojos in Okinawa. You will need to invest in the standard Gi and Red Oak Bo staff to begin, as we maintain strict traditional standards for every student who joins the dojo.
What Defines Our Lineage
In the world of martial arts, 'lineage' is not just a label. It refers to the direct, unbroken chain of instruction from the master to the student. My connection to the Shorin-ryu Seibukan family, under Grand Master Zenpo Shimabukuro, ensures that what is taught on the floor of our Jayanagar dojo is physically and technically consistent with the root system in Okinawa.
The Kobudo Curriculum
We focus on the essential Okinawan weapons, specifically the Bo staff and the Tonfa. This is not for show, and it is not about looking impressive on camera. Kobudo training is a deep dive into biomechanics and precision.
- The Bo Staff: We begin with the six-foot staff. Beginners will focus on stance, grip, and the 'Kihon' (basics) to ensure safety and proper power generation.
- Tonfa Techniques: These require a higher level of control. We emphasize the rotation and the 'snap' that makes these tools effective as defensive instruments.
- Kata Practice: Through set sequences, we build muscle memory and mental clarity. This is where the real skill is forged.
Why Tradition Matters
Training here is based on the 'Dojo Kun' principles. Whether you are coming from a background in other martial arts or starting from zero, my goal is to guide you through the process of refinement. We do not chase trophies or shortcuts. We focus on consistent attendance, adherence to the syllabus, and the patience required to master the weapon. If you are serious about learning the art of Jinbukan Kobudo as it was intended to be taught, you will find that here.
