Real fights often end up on the ground. Teach your child how to control the situation with leverage and technique, not brute force.

This is where technique beats strength. In our Jiu-Jitsu classes, kids learn how to control an opponent on the ground. This student is practicing a dominant position, learning to stay calm and apply pressure correctly.

Wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu build a strong mindset like nothing else. Here, two students are engaged in a grappling exchange, learning to think several moves ahead and stay composed under pressure.

Practice, practice, practice. This photo shows two of our students drilling a grappling technique. Repetition is key to making these moves second nature, so they can be used effectively when needed.

Wrestling warm-ups are both fun and functional. These drills build strength, agility, and a feel for grappling, preparing the kids for the technical part of the class.

This is a behind the scenes look at a clinch technique practice. The clinch is a crucial skill in self-defense for controlling the distance and setting up takedowns, which we drill extensively.

About Ground Control: Jiu-Jitsu & Wrestling

The mat doesn't lie. Unlike striking, where a bigger kid might have an advantage, grappling is about technique and leverage. In my classes, we don't just wrestle. We teach kids to stay calm, identify an opening, and control a situation without resorting to aggression. Whether it is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or wrestling, it is about chess, not chaos.

When a fight goes to the ground, most people panic. That is where things get dangerous. My goal is to make sure your child stays composed when they are on the mat. We combine Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and traditional wrestling (kushti) techniques because these are the most effective ways to manage an opponent without needing to land heavy blows.

We drill clinching, guard retention, and pressure management. This is functional movement. It is hard work, and that is the point. It builds the kind of mental toughness that is not just for the mat; it helps them in school, at home, and in life.

Most bullying starts with a shove or a grab. We teach kids how to break grips, maintain their base, and stand back up safely. It is not about fighting; it is about control. And because we keep our batch sizes small (approx 8-15 kids), every student gets individual correction on their form. Whether your kid is looking to compete or just needs to build confidence, this is where they learn to hold their ground.

I used to be a bully victim, and that changed everything for me. I teach kids how to find their inner strength because nobody is coming to save them—they have to learn to save themselves. We train hard, keep it real, and leave the ego at the door.
