Witness the dramatic journey of Draupadi in our signature dance musical, "Krishnaa - Fire to Frost." We blend the grace of Kathak with intense theatrical storytelling to bring this ancient Mahabharata epic to life through movement and melody.

Draupadi's life began in fire, born from a feud between Drupada and Drona. In our production 'Krishnaa - Fire to Frost', we use powerful visuals with flowing fabrics and dynamic formations to depict the dramatic origins of this epic heroine.

Arjuna's incredible skill at Draupadi's Svayamvara won her heart, but destiny bound her to all five Pandava brothers. We use innovative stagecraft, including aerial acts, to portray these pivotal moments from the Mahabharata with dramatic flair.

The infamous game of dice is a turning point in the Mahabharata, leading to the humiliation of the Pandavas and Draupadi. Our choreography captures the rising tension and arrogance of the Kauravas, setting the stage for the epic conflict to follow.

In her moment of deepest despair, Krishna answers Draupadi's call and protects her dignity. This scene is a powerful representation of faith and divine intervention, which we portray using symbolic choreography and evocative stage lighting.

After her wishes are fulfilled, Draupadi is ultimately abandoned during the final ascent in the Himalayas. This poignant scene from 'Krishnaa - Fire to Frost' explores themes of attachment and liberation, using stark, minimalist movements to convey her final journey.

Did Draupadi, after a life of trials and tribulations, finally find peace? This is the central question we explore. The final moments of the production are designed to be contemplative, leaving the audience with a sense of her indomitable spirit.

This moment captures the intense dialogue between Draupadi and Krishna before he attempts to negotiate peace. It is a scene filled with emotion, where I portray Draupadi's pain and Krishna's promise of justice.

A glimpse into the dramatic storytelling of 'Krishnaa - Fire to Frost'. This production, marking the centennial of my father-in-law T.V. Dwarakanath, is a tribute to his legacy in theatre and a cornerstone of our company's work.

The transformation from a simple cloth to a character's full costume is a magical process. Here, you can see how we designed the attire for Draupadi during the Rajasuya Yaga, carefully selecting fabrics and colors to reflect her royal stature.

We do not just choreograph steps; we design the entire visual landscape, from the fabric choices that represent her fiery origin to the specific lighting cues that mirror her internal peace, ensuring each performance feels complete and deeply rooted in our tradition.

I am Nirupama Rajendra, and at Abhinava Dance Company, we believe dance is a spiritual phenomenon. My husband Rajendra and I, along with our dedicated ensemble, have spent thirty years bringing ancient stories to life, striving to mirror the beauty and strength of the human spirit through the languages of Kathak and Bharathanatyam.
